Early life

Jason Wong was born Huang Jun-feng on July 8, 1978, in Hong Kong. Before becoming an actor, iFeng reports that Jason Wong was a runner-up in ATV’s Mr. Asia 2012 competition. It was thereafter that he signed with ATV and entered showbiz.

Beginnings in acting

Jason Wong started out in acting when he was cast in ‘The White Storm’ in 2013.

Cast alongside Louis Koo

However, an interesting point about his first-ever acting role was that he managed to star alongside his A-lister doppelganger, Louis Koo! Naturally, given his A-list status, Louis Koo was playing the lead role of So Kin-chow, while Jason Woo’s role was minor.

Comparisons start

According to AsiaOne, once seeing the resemblance between the two actors, netizens and the Hong Kong media started calling Jason Wong the 'knock-off Louis Koo,' given the difference in the two stars’ status.

Persisting despite unkind moniker

Jason Wong has made a name for himself in Hong Kong showbiz despite the rather unkind moniker bestowed upon him by the media by rising through the ranks and landing roles in several Hong Kong films and TV series.

Well-connected

According to a Bread-TV interview, despite his rather minute casting in TV and film works, Jason Wong has quite the connection in the industry. He is good friends with ATV director and politician Jeff Wong.

Jason Wong’s works

Despite not landing a major mainstream role yet, Jason Wong has starred in many big Hong Kong film and TV projects alongside major A-listers like Andy Lau. This includes his work on ‘Shock Wave’, ‘Dark Secret’, and ‘Napping Kid’.

Finally earning recognition

Jason Wong was finally recognized for his acting skills in 2016 when he made an impression on movie director Wang Jing on the set of ‘Chasing the Dragon’ while playing Doll Qiang, according to a Sohu report.

Played the same role in sequel

Baike notes that Jason Wong’s performance as Doll Qiang impressed Wang Jing so much that he wrote Jason Wong’s character again in the movie’s sequel and even gave him a major scene with Louis Koo.

Made an impact with Wang Jing

Jason Wong’s impact on Wang Jing was so great that Sohu reports the director roped him into a third work by casting him in the 2019 film ‘Flirting Scholar from the Future’. This is his third Wang Jing work since ‘Chasing the Dragon’.

Outside of entertainment

Jason Wong made headlines in 2015 after being involved in a traffic accident. According to 163, Jason Wong heroically assisted victims of a traffic accident in Shenzhen while on a business trip. When the incident was reported, he was hailed as a hero by netizens.

Tragic accident in 2023

One of Jason Wong's claims to fame, being Louis Koo's doppelganger, became a double-edged sword after an unfortunate accident in 2023. In August, the actor was allegedly attacked by a man who slashed him with a kitchen knife. The attack was completely unprovoked.

Slashed for looking like Louis Koo

The same 8days report states that Jason Wong had been slashed in the face, hand and waist with a knife while out with fellow actors for dinner in Shenzhen. The reason?: The drug-fueled assailant thought that he was Louis Koo’s character from ‘Chasing The Dragon’.

100 stitches

AsiaOne reports that Jason Wong’s attacker had been jailed for attempted murder, while an 8days report states that the attack had required 100 stitches to patch the actor up from the attack.

Louis Koo helps out

Given that the incident was partly related to Louis Koo, The Star reported that the A-lister lent a helping hand by providing HK$50,000 in financial aid to Jason Wong to help with medical expenses in the aftermath of the attack.
