Dave Bautista lost 33 kilos in one year... and it was mostly muscle mass
Those who have seen Dave Bautista in recent weeks will have been amazed by his unexpected physical change.
The actor had to lose weight for his latest film, 'The Last Showgirl', directed by Gia Coppola, and the result has been very surprising.
The former WWE wrestler lost just over 33 kilos in a year and a half, as he himself confirmed in an interview with 'LIVE with Kelly and Mark'.
To put things into context, Dave Bautista is 55 years old and, as he said in the interview, "This is probably the lightest I've been since I was 19 years old."
Dave Bautista confirms that when he was competing as a wrestler, he used to weigh 132 kilos. At times he even reached 170 kilos. That's a lot, but you also have to consider his height of 198 cm (6'4).
When he had to start this radical weight loss, at the beginning of 2023, the actor was at 143 kilos. And "that’s when the nightmare started," he admits.
To lose so much weight, Dave Bautista claims to have resorted to jiu-jitsu and a strict diet. It allowed him to drop to 109 kilos (229lb).
Her you see a 'before' picture, from the film 'Knives Out: Glass Onion' (2022, Netflix). Bautista has mostly lost muscle mass, not fat. "Muscle weighs more than fat, so clearly a lot of it is muscle weight," he explains.
The former wrestler does not look especially muscular anymore. "But I’m okay with it because I just feel more comfortable," he says.
In fact, the actor claims his excess volume had sometimes been a problem when filming certain scenes.
Bautista revealed that he preferred losing muscle mass from his stomach than that from his pectorals. But wherever he lost muscle mass, it was all for the sake of a film that mattered to him.
