The incredible journey of Oscar-nominated actress Fernanda Torres
Recently, Fernanda Torres' name went viral in the media and on social media around the world, due to the success of her performance in the film 'I'm Still Here', directed by Walter Salles.
The year has barely begun and Fernanda Torres has already won awards such as the Golden Globe, the APCA Cinema Award, and the Satellite Award, all in the Best Actress category.
Now, the talented Brazilian actress awaits the results of other awards for which she was nominated: the Gold Derby Awards (10/02) and the Oscar (03/03). 'I'm Still Here' is competing for the Oscar in the categories of Best Film and Best International Film.
'I'm Still Here' is a deep and sensitive drama about the search for identity, love, and historical memory. Amid the military dictatorship, Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres) searches for her husband, Rubem (Selton Melo), captured and killed by the military.
The production is inspired by the book 'I'm Still Here' written by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, who is the son of Eunice and Rubem and saw up close all the drama experienced at that time.
In an interview with Reuters, Fernanda Torres said that being nominated for the award as an actress was great, but her priority is for the film to win: “The Paiva family deserves it, and Eunice Paiva deserves it.”
She added: “When you read in a history book, ‘civil rights were suspended,’ that’s just a sentence. But in the movie, it means they can come into your house, take your father, then take your mother, then your sister, leave you alone.”
Fernanda Torres was born in 1965, in a home where the art of acting was always present. Daughter of Fernanda Montenegro, known in Brazil as the "lady of acting" and the late actor Fernando Torres, she began her artistic career at the age of 13 and has never stopped.
On television, Fernanda Torres stood out right from her debut, in 1981, in Manoel Carlos' hit, 'Baila Comigo'. Sometime later, in 'Selva de Pedra' (1986), she played two characters: Simone Marques / Rosana Reis.
