The tragedies of John Travolta's family life
John Travolta is one of Hollywood's most beloved and iconic actors. From 'Grease' to 'Pulp Fiction', he's won us over in countless films with his undeniable talent. However, despite the success, there have been irreparable losses in the actor's personal life.
John Travolta's first child with Kelly Preston, Jett, was born in 1992. While still a baby, his parents realized that he had serious health problems.
At the age of two, the boy was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease. It's an illness that causes inflammation in the arteries.
The boy frequently suffered seizures. Sadly, in 2009, he lost consciousness after one of his seizures and hit his head in the bathtub.
Jett, who was 16, was on vacation with his family in the Bahamas. He did not survive the accident. The coroner's report described the cause of death as "heart failure".
Years later, in 2016, Travolta spoke out for the first time about the experience of losing a child. "The truth is, I didn't know if I was going to make it," he posted on his social media. "Life was no longer interesting to me, so it took a lot to get me better."
He added: "They say the hardest thing in the world is losing a parent. I can now say that isn't true. The hardest thing in the world is losing a child. Someone you raised and watched grow every day. Someone you taught how to walk and talk. Someone you showed how to love. It's the worst thing to ever happen to anyone. My son died of a seizure. He brought me so much joy. He was my everything. Those 16 years of being his father taught me how to love unconditionally."
"We have to stop and be thankful for our children and children should stop and be thankful for their parents," Travolta wrote. "Because, life is very short. Spend time with your parents and parents spend time with your children. What I truly learned most of all is, live and love everyday like it's your last. Because, one day, it will be."
In 2022, the year Jett would turn 30, Travolta showed that his love is infinite. He wrote a beautiful tribute to his son on Instagram.
In 2021, John Travolta experienced yet another loss in his life. This time, it was his life partner, Kelly Preston, who suffered be ea st cancer.
The actress fought a two-year battle with the disease and passed away at her home in the company of her husband and their two children, Ella and Benjamin.
Tragically, this was not the first time that Travolta lost a great love to br ea st cancer.
In 1976, John Travolta and Diana Hyland were co-stars in the film 'The Boy in the Plastic Bubble'. They fell in love and became a couple.
Despite having undergone a mastectomy and believing she was healing from the illness, Diana Hyland did not survive. She died at the age of 41.
And there was another woman close to Travolta who suffered a similar fate. In 2022, the actor lost his friend and colleague Olivia Newton-John to cancer. They had co-starred in the unforgettable film 'Grease' in 1978.
He paid tribute to the actress on social media: "My Dearest Olivia, you made our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much, We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever. Your Danny, your John!"
