What happened to Ariana Grande? Her physical changes draw many comments
Ariana Grande does not usually give her opinion on social media, but when she considers it necessary, she speaks out. Recently, the star of 'Wicked' went online to talk about her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress but also to address the many comments about her supposed underweight.
The actress has raised alarm bells for her remarkable thinness for some time now. On January 4, for example, she received the Rising Star at the Palm Springs Film Festival but many people noted that she looked underweight.
Then, on January 5, when she appeared at the Golden Globes gala as one of the nominees for the Best Supporting Actress award, again, the public noted how thin she was.
For years, many commenters have tried to explain the physical change of the artist. She has expressed and even made fun of the fact that she feels like she is in a showcase, exposed to all kinds of rumors about her physical condition.
In a December 2024 interview with French influencer Crazy Sally, she expressed feelings of sadness and frustration when asked about the constant criticism of her appearance. "I think I'm really lucky to have the support system that I have," she said. "And to just know and trust that I'm beautiful."

"But I do know what the pressure of that noise feels like," she added. "It's been a resident in my life since I was 17."
"I just don't invite it in anymore," she continued. "It's not welcome. I have work to do, I have a life to live, I have friends to love on, I have so much love, and [the noise is] not invited. So I don't leave space for it anymore," she said in the interview.

Days later, she took her thinness with a sense of humor while receiving the Rising Star award at the Palm Springs Film Festival. First, she pretended not to be able to hold the award due to lack of strength, and then, she joked about her age. "I never thought at the age of 31 I would be hearing the words 'rising star' again, so I wanted to start by thanking my two friends: Botox and Juvederm," she said.
As such, the actress and singer acknowledged that her face is not entirely natural. According to the newspaper El País, she used a lot of Botox and lip fillers for some time. However, she has been 'clean' for more than four years. "For a long time, beauty was about hiding for me. And now I feel like maybe it's not, since I stopped getting fillers and Botox," she said.
To respond to the overwhelming comments about her increasing thinness, specifically in 2023, Ariana Grande revealed in a video posted on TikTok that she has hypoglycemia, an illness that causes blood glucose levels to drop considerably at times. As she explained on TikTok, the illness sometimes made her forget to eat.

As the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the United States explains, hypoglycemia causes symptoms such as nervousness, body tremors, hunger, fatigue, dizziness, confusion, blurred vision, and difficulty expressing oneself, among others. While these symptoms form a strange explanation for someone forgetting to eat, each body functions differently and there could indeed be a relation to Ariana Grande's thinness.

In the video, Ariana Grande urged people to be kind to each other. It's not always appropriate to comment on someone's physical appearance, she said, even if you mean it in a positive way, because you never know what the other person faces in their life. The singer/actress also made it clear that, for her, there are different types of beauty.

"I think the most important thing is to have each other's backs," she said. "When you see something or hear something that's upsetting, or someone says something that's upsetting, even if it's not to you, just say something and be there and support each other."

The actress, born in Boca Raton, Florida, also explained that, contrary to what people thought about her figure of yesteryear, she wasn't necessarily healthier in the years when she weighed more.
"I know personally for me, the body that you have been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body," she said, surprisingly. "I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy," she explained. "But that in fact wasn't my healthy."
Another aspect pointed out as the reason for her weight loss is the emotional one. Some major events have recently shaken Ariana Grande. In September 2018, rapper Mac Miller died at the age of 26 from an accidental overdose. Three months earlier, Ariana had broken off a relationship with him after having tried to help the rapper get out of his addictions.
The loss was so devastating to the actress that in December 2018, when she was named Woman of the Year by Billboard magazine, she took to the stage and addressed her personal pain.
"I want to say that I find it interesting that this has been one of the best years of my career and the worst of my life," she told the audience after receiving the honor. "So yeah, it's been a very conflicting one."
Apart from the death of her ex-boyfriend in 2018, Ariana Grande had also faced a sad and shocking chapter in her life when on May 22, 2017, the terrorist organization IS attacked the crowd at her concert in Manchester and killed 22 fans.
Whatever the reason that makes her look the way she does, Ariana Grande says she is better than before. In November 2024, she announced that fans would be seeing her more as an actress than as a singer. She explained that she planned to drastically reduce her pace in music to dedicate herself to theater.
Her role in 'Wicked' as Galinda Uppland allowed Ariana Grande to rediscover her artistic roots and rethink her professional priorities, Infobae reported.

Grande began her career at age 15 in the Broadway musical '13', and while she became one of the most recognizable voices in pop music, it seems that theater is where she truly belongs.
In the photo, we see Ariana with her brother Frankie posing backstage at the Broadway musical 'Rock Of Ages' in 2014.
As Grande told the podcast 'Las Culturistas,' she was "reconnecting with this part of myself who started in musical theater and who loves comedy, and it heals me to do that."
