Hi, I'm Brad Pitt and I want to be your boyfriend, but I need 830K for medical expenses
The story has gone viral and made several things clear: love is blind; Brad Pitt could rule the world if he wanted to; and no one, absolutely no one, is safe from being scammed.
They say that reality is often stranger than fiction. And that was the case for the French Anne, a 53-year-old interior designer, who believed she was in a long-distance relationship with one of the most desirable men in the world: Brad Pitt.
On the French television show 'Sept à Huit', she explained how someone impersonated the actor and managed to extort around 830,000 euros (850,000 dollars) from her.
It all started in February 2023, with Anne on vacation and opening an Instagram account. Soon enough, she was contacted by a woman named 'Jane Etta Pitt'. She was allegedly the mother of the famous actor.
A day later, supposedly Brad Pitt himself contacted Anne on Instagram. He told her that his mother had spoken highly of her.
To make her believe him, the impostor sent her a video created by Artificial Intelligence that helped Anne believe Brad Pitt was sending her all kinds of personal details about himself.
She believed the story, was charmed with the man, and, just a few days later, Brad Pitt proposed marriage to her. That's where the financial scam began.
'Brad Pitt' wanted to send the French woman luxury gifts and asked her if she could send him 9,000 euros for the customs duties on the package. That was the first time he asked the victim for money, as she recounts on the program.
In the process of being courted and defrauded by the fake Brad Pitt, Anne divorces her husband. The divorce frees up 775,000 euros for her, and 'Brad Pitt' was very interested when he heard that.
Coincidentally, 'Brad Pitt' hears he has kidney cancer and asks his victim for her 775,000 euros to go into treatment in the United States.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Brad Pitt is worth $400 million. The victim must have had an inkling of that. So how could he possibly need money?
Te scammer convinced the victim that he was short on cash by referring to the divorce proceedings with Angelina Jolie.
The scammer claims that Brad Pitt's accounts have been blocked as a result of the actor couple's tumultuous divorce.
Anne was certainly aware that the request seemed odd. But she was in love, and said on the show 'Sept à Huit': "I told myself that maybe I would save a man's life." So, she transferred the nearly 800K to the scammer's account.
But then, about one and a half years after their first meeting, in the summer of 2024, Anne finds out that Brad Pitt is in a relationship with the Spanish businesswoman Inés de Ramón.
Anne realized she had been defrauded, her Brad Pitt was fake, and she filed a complaint.
The French police are investigating the incident, but either way, Anne has fallen into a severe depression. About the culprits, she said: "These people deserve hell."
Before making fun of this woman, it's worth looking inside and thinking about the stupid things we all have done for love, real or fake, at least once. Only then can we empathize with someone like Anne. She has not only lost her money but also the love of her life: Brad Pitt.
