Princess of Wales discharged from hospital following abdominal surgery

The Princess of Wales, aged 42, has been discharged from the hospital on Monday, 29th January. Catherine, the wife of the future King, went home 13 days after undergoing abdominal surgery, according to an official statement from Kensington Palace.

The palace confirmed that the procedure was planned and successful. The Princess was recuperating at the London Clinic, near Regent's Park in central London.

Princess Kate, as she is affectionately known by the British media, will now continue her recuperation at her home in Windsor, alongside her husband, Prince William, and their three children.

While the palace did not reveal specific details about the princess' condition, it has been stated that she is not expected to resume her royal duties for several months.

“The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress," Kensington Palace said in a statement on Monday 29th January.

“The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided."

“The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world," the statement continued.

According to the BBC, the Prince of Wales has not been performing any official duties during his wife's hospitalization, and he won’t be resuming these duties in the period following her discharge. Prince William will be at his wife’s side to assist her speedy recovery.

Her recovery is expected to last months, as the statement from Kensington Palace read on the 17th January, the date the Princes went into the hospital. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

So what was the procedure? “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private”, the statement continued.

Some information has been shared by a Palace source to NBC News. This source confirmed that, whatever the procedure was, it is understood to be noncancerous.

Media have agreed to refrain from taking photographs from outside the hospital while the Princess was admitted. The reasoning is not only to give Catherine privacy while dealing with medical issues, but also to give privacy to the other patients in the hospital.

Like other senior royals, the palace is not sharing many details about the princess' condition and will not provide ongoing updates on her recovery.
