The tragic accident that killed 18-year-old Emilio, son of Chelsea veteran Michael Ballack

The German football star Michael Ballack is experiencing an unexpected and cruel tragedy. His son, Emilio, died at dawn on August 5. He had a fatal quad accident in the town of Troia, Portugal, as reported by the Portuguese channel TVI24.

As reported by the Portuguese channel, the 18-year-old was involved in a brutal crash at around 02:00, which ended his life immediately. The health services could not do anything for the young man.

According to TVI24, the Grândola Fire Department had to come and release the lifeless body of young Emilio from what turned out to be a complicated situation. Up to 12 operatives presented themselves at the site of the accident, one of them with a medicalized emergency vehicle, to try and revive Emilio Ballack. They had no success.

After releasing the body, rescue services sent him to the Hospital Do Literal Alentejano (HLA), located in Santiago de Cacém. However, there was nothing they could do for Emilio anymore.

Emilio was not in Troia by chance, as his father, the former footballer Michael Ballack, had bought a house in the area years ago. It was common for the Ballack family to spend long periods in the Portuguese town for the summer. Troia is a quiet place, just over 90 minutes by car from Lisbon.

Emilio was one of Michael Ballack's three children, along with Louis and Jordi. The mother of the deceased young man is Simone Lambe, whom Michael Ballack married in 2008 after more than 10 years being together.

The 45-year-old former footballer played for Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea. The London club was actually among the first to offer its condolences to the player and his family.

“Everybody associated with Chelsea is shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Emilio Ballack at the terribly young age of 18. All our thoughts are with his father Michael and his family at this sad time."

Bayer Leverkusen sent its support to the player, from the hand of its sports director, Rudi Völler. “The news shocked me and I am very deeply affected. We mourn the child and feel for Michael and Simone. Everyone at Bayern 04 wishes a great to of strength to the Ballack family."

The family has decided to delete Emilio Ballack's Instagram account in order to avoid the morbidity of the photos. One of the young man's recent posts had referred to Troia, the area where he'd lose his life.

Louis Ballack, Emilio's young brother, still has a photo, published on his Instagram in 2017, of two quads in Troia. Presumably, Emilio Ballack had the accident with one of them.

Social media are showing more and more messages of support for the Ballack family, which must be devastated right now.
