Support for their national teams

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are not only leaving milestones at a sporting level but, like every four years, royals go out of their way to support the delegations of their respective countries. They leave friendly, close, and curious impressions.

Here we see the Dutch princess Amalia hugging basketball player Worthy de Jong after he and his team won gold in 3x3 basketball.

Royal joy

The royals dress less formally at the Olympics and show us more relaxed gestures compared to those we are used to in their daily lives. You can see it in Queen Letizia of Spain cheering on the Spanish women's water polo team in Paris.

No protocol

Beyond their titles and the rigid rules of protocol to which they are accustomed, they are just as passionate as the rest of us. The Dutch royal family is particularly enthusiastic in encouraging their teams from the stands.

A wave, why not?

Queen Máxima, Princess Amalia, and King Willem-Alexander participate in a wave from the stands.

Tender image of Charlene of Monaco with her son Jaime

Spontaneous images are common. An example is this tender scene of Princess Charlene from Monaco wrapping up her son, Prince Jaime, in a rain poncho at the opening ceremony of Paris 2024.

A royal selfie

The daughters of the Spanish king make selfies like any other teen would.

The expressive Maxima of Holland

At these Olympic Games, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, always expressive and spontaneous, has once again highlighted her fun character by chatting and encouraging the Dutch athletes participating in the Paris Olympic Games.

Raincoats for everyone

The rain, although it was somewhat uncomfortable for those attending the opening ceremony, provided us with funny photographs of the kings and princesses wrapped in plastic.

The Emir of Qatar looked different

Here we have the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, trying to get hold of the raincoat with which he protected himself from the water from the Paris sky.

Albert of Monaco, in the rain

And here, Prince Albert of Monaco is enjoying the moment, despite the rain.

Euphoria!

The presence of the royals of The Netherlands at sporting events in which Dutch athletes participate is common. Here, we see them posing with the women's hockey team.

Romantic walk with the Eiffel Tower in the background

Princes Albert and Charlène of Monaco walk hand in hand through Paris with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Cute gesture from Frederik and Mary of Denmark

Also very affectionate were the royals of Denmark, Frederik and Mary, holding each other's waists on the red carpet that took them to the Elysée Palace reception for foreign leaders offered by Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron.

New generations of royals at the Olympic Games

New generations of princesses like Leonor and Sofia of Spain are actively participating in different sporting events. They mix with the crowd and sharing the excitement and euphoria of the public.

The yawn of Prince James of Monaco (under the watchful eye of Charlène)

Although, perhaps, the youngest ones like Princes Jaime and Gabriella of Monaco, may find this all a bit tedious...

Sophie of Edinburgh, excited

The sporty Duchess celebrated British gold for the women's team sprint at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome. They even got a world record.

Photo!

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, like anyone else, used his mobile phone to capture the unforgettable moments experienced in the Olympic Village.

Supporting athletes

The king and queen of Spain, Felipe and Letizia, have also always enthusiastically supported Spanish athletes, even in the pouring rain.

Felipe VI and Letizia, excited

They greeted and applauded the Spanish delegation as it floated along with the other national teams in boats on the Seine River.

Everything OK in the rain of Paris

The king and queen of Belgium, Philip and Matilda, endured the downpour to cheer on their athletes.

Queen Mary's Joy

Here is the joy of Queen Mary of Denmark celebrating the points of the Danish handball team against the Swedish team.

Family in casual outfits

You would hardly recognize them as the Dutch royals.

Well done!

Felipe VI of Spain happily celebrated the victory of the Spanish women's basketball team against the United States. Hugging is allowed in these settings.

The enthusiasm of the kings of Belgium from the stands

The Belgian kings have enjoyed the successes of their athletes in the Olympic Games with emotion and enthusiasm. Belgium notably got two gold medals thanks to cyclist Remco Evenepoel, and the king was there to congratulate him right after his races.

Braaaavo!

King Frederik of Denmark applauded Denmark's points in badminton.

Letizia of Spain, amazed

Letizia from Spain was amazed by the triumphs of the girls of the Spanish women's basketball team.

Queen Letizia all over the place

The Queen of Spain has been one of the most active royals at these Paris Olympic Games, witnessing the main events of the Spanish delegation, including the tennis match that pitted Alcaraz against Tommy Paul.

She goes to the Max

We close with another moment of Máxima of The Netherlands in her maximum splendor.
