Luke Newton: from Disney kid with ADHD to Bridgerton star

The actor's story includes learning challenges, failures (resounding and not so resounding) and family problems, but nothing could stop Newton on his way to stardom.

Although 'Bridgerton' is currently the most watched series on Netflix and Luke Newton one of its stars, his career has spanned television, theatre and music for several years.

He showed an interest in entertainment from an early age and, since then, he has faced and overcome different obstacles that have marked his career.

And he had a challenging childhood that included poor school performance due to his diagnosis of dyslexia and ADHD. He also had to cope with his parents' divorce at a young age.

He always showed a keen interest in pop culture and the performing arts, which he was able to explore from his elementary education.

Since his primary school education was interested in the performing arts and performed in school plays. He completed his theatre training at the prestigious London School of Musical Theatre, which cemented his passion for musical theatre and acting.

In 2013, Newton got his first theatrical opportunity in the musical 'The Book of Mormon' in London's prestigious West End... but only as an understudy. But with that inexhaustible spirit, he took that experience as the basis for his acting development.

At the age of 17, Newton joined the cast of the teen series 'The Cut', which aired on BBC Two, playing Luke Attwood. Although the series didn't make much of an impact, it got him noticed by the right people.

In this moderately successful youth production he shared the stage with Sophie Simnett and Thomas Doherty. What stood out was the alleged romance with his co-star which was never confirmed. He was later in a relationship with actress Jade Louise Davies from 2019 to March 2023.

At the age of 18, he was part of "South 4", a group with his high school performing arts classmates.

But the band did not achieve the expected success. Despite this failure, Luke was not discouraged and continued in music, releasing some of his own songs on his YouTube channel.

Throughout his life, Newton has faced significant challenges, such as dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which complicated his ability to read and memorise scripts. Some of these he navigated alongside his partner of four years, actress Jade Louise Davies.

Interestingly, for music there seemed to be no learning problems as he has a great ability to learn songs and melodies quickly.

In parallel to filming his stellar season at Bridgerton, he performed in the play 'The Shape of Things', sharing the stage with Amber Anderson, known for her role in 'Peaky Blinders'. With several projects on the way and a growing fan base, Newton's future looks bright.
