British actor Riz Ahmed received nominations for the Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Oscar for his interpretation of a metal rock drummer who has to rearrange his life when he starts to lose his hearing. The movie was already out in the US in November 2020 and won't be in British cinemas until at least May 2021, so this release on Amazon is a big one.

Godzilla vs. Kong (1st April, UK) - Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime UK sees the premiere of a blockbuster with two (literally) great characters: King Kong and Godzilla fight each other in this spectacular action movie. According to reviewers, the special effects are best appreciated on a big screen, but the long-expected saga (initially planned for November 2020 but delayed due to pandemic lockdowns) is still worth a watch from the comfort of your home.

Prank Encounters (1st April) - Netflix

In this series you can find seven show-within-a-show-style episodes of 'Prank Encounters', a hidden camera show hosted by Stranger Things' Gaten Matarazzo. A great combination of fear and laughter as we watch real people star in their own horror movie in one of the most elaborate hidden camera shows in television history.

The Mauritanian (1st April, UK) - Amazon Prime

This drama about a Guantanamo Bay prisoner and the attorney investigating his case has already received various awards and nominations. With Jodie Foster and Tahar Rahim, the movie is described by The Independent as "an urgent condemnation of the evils of Guantanamo Bay."

Worn Stories (1st April) - Netflix

Everyone has some kind of item of clothing with a special meaning. Throughout eight episodes of 'Worn Stories', well-known faces from the world of culture will confess the meaning of some of the garments in their wardrobes. From boots that symbolize survival, to a dress that is associated with a serious recovery, to a uniform that is completely connected to its owner. With first-person accounts and animated images that bring the stories to life, it's a meaningful and fascinating show to watch.

Run (2nd April, UK) - Netflix

Sarah Paulson and Kiera Ellen star in this chilling psychological thriller about a mother who keeps her daughter inside the house at all costs. The reason, that her daughter has serious health problems, turns out to be an excuse for a much darker plot.

Concrete Cowboy (2nd April) - Netflix

Another lead character from the smash hit TV series 'Stranger Things', Caleb McLaughlin has taken on his own lead role in 'Concrete Cowboy' along with Idris Elba. The story is set in the hot summer of Philadelphia where a teenager flits between a life of crime and the curious subculture of urban cowboys where his father belongs. They don't get on too well, however and tension is high. One to watch.

Blithe Spirit (2nd April, Australia) - Amazon Prime

Judi Dench plays a medium whose séance goes wildly out of control in this 2020 adaptation of the 1941 play 'Blithe Spirit' by Noel Coward. The star cast of this comedy also includes Isla Fisher, Dan Stevens, and Leslie Mann.

Madame Claude (2nd April) - Netflix

The story of 'Madame Claude' takes us back to Paris in the 1960's, when Madame Claude's influence and social stretch go far deeper than her surface brothel business. Everything is set to turn upside-down as a rich girl enters this world and changes everything completely.

The Serpent (2nd April) - Netflix

Finally, the rest of the world can see this excellent BBC production. A terrifying con man and serial killer, Charles Sobhraj (Tahar Rahim) catches tourists in his net in the city of Bangkok. Dutch diplomat Herman Knippenberg (Billy Howle) is relentless in his pursuit of the 'Serpent,' in the hope of one day bringing him to justice. Set in the 1970s, this true-to-life mini-series will keep any viewer on the edge of their seat.

Pray, Obey, Kill (4th April) - HBO

'Pray, obey, kill' is a true crime documentary. They take viewers to the Swedish town of Knutby, where a sect exists that thinks the Messiah will return to Earth one day to marry the sect's leader. But the town will never be the same again after the murder of a young woman. Two journalists gather evidence, testimonies, data and interviews to find out what really happened. Executive producer Hanka Kastelicová says: “Pray, Obey, Kill is complex, grim, dramatic and more proof that life itself writes the most unbelievable stories.”

Snabba Cash (7th April) - Netflix

'Snabba Cash' continues the story of the 'Easy Money' film trilogy, setting this next part 10 years after the events narrated previously. In this series, everything moves to Stockholm, where Leya, a young single mother, tries to succeed with a start-up where she is involved with both entrepreneurs and criminals, which, needless to say, will end up not going too well.

The Wedding Coach (7th April) - Netflix

A wedding may be the happiest moment in a couple's life, but the days leading up to it, even the hours before, are hectic. In this reality show, comedian Jamie Lee will join several couples in their preparations for their wedding, showing the world just how complicated it is to make it to the altar and say 'I do'.

This is a Robbery: The World's Biggest Art Heist (7th April) - Netflix

'This is a Robbery' will show, in just four episodes, how the biggest art heist in history was prepared and carried out. This true story takes us to St. Patrick's weekend, 1990, at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. In a period of just 48 hours, two men dressed as police manage to con their way in to the museum and several works by Rembrandt, Vermeer and other artists worth $500 million disappeared. Incredibly, 30 years later, we still don't know what really happened - this series investigates.

Dinosaurs Seasons 1-4 (Disney+)

This cult 1990s TV show will be remembered by many for its hilarious family squabbles and day to day challenges of a family of dinosaurs. Highlighting climate change issues to a young audience, this show isn't just for children. Adults alike will not only remember their youths but also find new humour in this fantastic puppet story. We can't wait to see it come back to screens.

THEM (April 9th UK, April 12th Australia) - Amazon Prime

In this original Amazon series, an African-American family moves into a white neighborhood in 1950s' Los Angeles. They become haunted by enemies from both the human and supernatural world. Critics say the show is reminiscent of 'Us,' the movie by Jordan Peele, or 'Lovecraft Country,' the acclaimed HBO series, and that is surely a good sign.

Palm Springs (9th April, UK) - Amazon Prime

In this acclaimed and awarded movie (Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy and for both lead actors), Andy Samberg and Cristin Miliot find themselves in a time loop while attending a wedding in the sunny town of Palm Springs.

Night in Paradise (9th April) - Netflix

'Night in Paradise' follows two lead characters whose paths meet unexpectedly in a strange paradise. One of these is a man whom the mafia wants to hunt down. The other is a woman who has given up and hopes for little in life. Perhaps this encounter will save both their lives. Or not.

Thunder Force (9th April) - Netflix

In 'Thunder Force' we meet two childhood friends who, years after losing contact, meet again. One of them has in fact designed a treatment that gives them superpowers, so they decide to use them to protect the city from villains. Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer star as the two super-heroines that Marvel will never have.

The Nevers (11th April) - HBO

Set in the 19th century, 'The Nevers' revolves around a group of people with special abilities who try to find a balance between good and evil in a time of profound Victorian change. London supernatural series many are looking forward to.

My Love: Six Stories of True Love (13th April) - Netflix

From Korean director Jim Moyoung, Netflix follows up his beautiful documentary 'My Love, Don't Cross That River' with this romantic series in which six local filmmakers from around the world follow six elderly couples for an entire year of their lives. Incredibly, these couples have been together for between 43 and 60 years and they have a beautiful and intimate story to tell. The couples show viewers an insight into their lives in different parts of the world like Brazil, Japan, Spain, India and the United States.

Dad, Stop Embarrassing Me (14th April) - Netflix

'Dad, Stop Embarrassing Me' is a classic comedy in which Jamie Foxx stars as a successful, single businessman who overnight has to learn to take care of his daughter, Kyla-Drew. Everything will be a new experience for both father and daughter and audiences get to see the developing relationship throughout the episodes. Funny and pulling all the right heart-strings.

Love and Monsters (14th April) - Netflix

Dylan O'Brien stars in this 2020 movie coming to our screens finally in April on Netflix. The exciting story tag line is as follows, 'In a monster-infested world, Joel learns his girlfriend is just 85 miles away. To make the dangerous journey, Joel discovers his inner hero to be with the girl of his dreams.' The trailer shows the film to be exciting, jumpy and full of hope, loss and love.

Ride or Die (15th April) - Netflix

In this on-the-road movie we will see two women fleeing from a murder crime in which both have been implicated. A chaotic and improvised escape that, to the surprise of both, will end up uniting them more than they expected. A high-action Japanese movie.

Big Shot (16th April) - Disney+

John Stamos returns to our screens to portray a basketball coach who is fired from a professional team for his bad manners and strong character. Circumstances arise that lead him to end up as a coach at a private high school where there is a player who shows incredible promise, but has a long way to go.

Arlo, The Alligator Boy (16th April) - Netflix

Arlo ('The Alligator Boy') is a young boy who is half human and half alligator that learns he was not born in the swamp where he lives, but in New York. Determined to find his father in the Big Apple, he embarks on a journey that will make one thing absolutely clear: he is more naive than he thought. Thankfully, Arlo finds his inner maturity to fend for himself and make friends along the way.

Mare of Easttown (18th April) - HBO

Kate Winslet has also made the jump to miniseries and, in this series, she proves she can also be a very convincing cop who investigates a murder in a small town. Meanwhile her own life falls apart. Similar to the 'Fargo' and 'Broadchurch' style of direction and storyline but with the added bonus of having Kate Winslet in the lead role.

Luis Miguel - Season 2 (18th April) - Netflix

This is the second season of the long-awaited series about the life of the Mexican music legend. What makes this season and series interesting is the way it is told in two timelines, which mirrors the difficulty Luis Miguel had to merge both his life and professional success with his family.

Welcome to Utmark (18th April) - HBO

'Welcome to Utmark' takes HBO to a small town at the top of the world in the northernmost tip of Norway. Utmark is a town where foreigners are definitely not welcome, and the show follows an optimistic new teacher who comes face to face with the reality of a town where the most logical person is a 12-year-old girl.

Stowaway (22nd April) - Netflix

Anna Kendrick, Toni Collette and Shamier Anderson star in this thriller that tells the story of a crew charged with a mission to Mars. There is an uninvited passenger on board that will cause them to make an impossible choice as their lives are in very real danger.

Shadow and Bone (23rd April) - Netflix

Based on the Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo, 'Shadow and Bone' takes us to a world where magic and war creates a struggle that has devastated the planet. Everything is about to change as Alina discovers she has extraordinary powers which will change the fate of the battle, as dark forces conspire to stop her.

Yasuke (29 de abril) - Netflix

Netflix continues to provide some great anime series and this time they are delivering an exciting original. Set in the feudal era of a fantastical Japan, where the lead character is an African samurai, voiced by Lakeith Stanfield (Oscar nominee for 'Judas and the Black Messiah'). This retired ninja will have to pick up his sword again to protect a mysterious young woman who is being pursued by otherworldly forces.

Things Heard and Seen (29th April) - Netflix

Based on the well-known story by Elizabeth Brundage, All Things Cease To Appear, this film tells the story of a Manhattan couple who trade in their lives in the Big Apple for a village in the Hudson Valley. There they discover that their relationship is inhabited by a darkness revealing stories into the dark history of their new home. Natalie Dyer, James Norton and Amanda Seyfried star in this awaited horror.

Nomadland (30th April) - Disney+

Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” will premiere on Disney Plus Star in the U.K. on April 30 and has already won Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture and Best Director. Last year it also won the Venice International Film Festival's Golden Lion for best film as well as best independent international film at the British Independent Film Awards so this film is much anticipated. Based on the book by Jessica Bruder, the story follows Fern (McDormand) who, after the financial crisis in 2008, goes to explore a new life as a nomad.

Tom Clancy: Without Remorse (30th April) - Amazon

After John Krasinski's 'Jack Ryan' series, Amazon Prime releases a new adaptation of a Tom Clancy novel: the film 'Without Remorse.' It stars Michael B. Jordan as an ex-Navy SEAL who needs to uncover an international conspiracy. Required watching for Tom Clancy fans and Michael B. Jordan lovers.
