Peter Robbins, the voice of Charlie Brown, passes at age 65

Sad news for Charlie Brown fans -voice actor Peter Robbins, the original voice of Charlie Brown, has passed away at the age of 65. Relatives of Robbins told Fox 5 San Diego that the voice actor took his own life last week.

Peter Robbins, whose real name was Louis G. Nanasi, was born in Los Angeles in 1956. He began his career as a voice actor at the young age of nine, lending his voice to the character of Charlie Brown in the 'Peanuts' cartoons from the 1960s.

In addition, Robbins provided the voice for Charlie Brown in 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' from 1965 and 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,' in 1966.

Not only did Robbins provide Charlie Brown's voice for four years, but he also landed a role on the comedy 'Blondie' (1968).

Robbins also guest-starred on a variety of television shows such as 'Rawhide,' 'The Munsters,' 'The Donna Reed Show,' 'F Troop,' 'Get Smart' and 'My Three Sons.'

By 1972, Peter Robbins decided to resign from the acting world and enjoyed working as a DJ in Palm Springs for a brief time. He also reportedly worked in real estate later in life.

Peter Robbins struggled with mental health issues, addiction, and legal problems throughout his life. Due to his mental illness, Robbins spent time in jail on more than one occasion.

In 2019, the actor was released from prison and interviewed by Fox 5 San Diego. Robbins spoke to the news outlet about the problems his mental health issues had caused him.

Robbins said, "I would recommend to anybody that has bipolar disorder to take it seriously because your life can turn around in the span of a month like it did to me."

The voice actor continued, "I came out of prison and I'm a better person for it. I'm much more humble and grateful and thankful that I lived through the experience."

According to Fox5 San Diego, a memorial service will be held for Peter Robbins at a yet unknown date
