The longest walk in the world and its breathtaking sights

The longest walk in the world takes you from Cape Town in South Africa to the port town of Magadan on the east side of Russia. We have to say, no human has ever completed this walk.

One of the reasons no one has ever attempted this is probably because the distance between these two destinations is a staggering 22,387 km (13,910 miles).

Realistically, a person walking this route at a continual pace would need more or less three years to complete the trip.

Imagine the route: starting in Cape Town, South Africa and finishing in Magadan in Russia by way of the Suez Canal, Turkey, Central Asia and across Siberia. We’re talking about a grand total of 16 different countries.

A user of Reddit shared this incredible journey under the title ‘The Potential Longest Walkable Road’. That must have taken quite a few Google map hypotheticals.

Just a few things to note on the walk: you may encounter the black mamba in Zimbabwe - one of the most dangerous snakes in the world.

Not to mention, Syria is in the midst of a civil war as well as plagued by earthquakes, Uganda has record cases of Malaria and Sudan is one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

Language barriers, changing of currency, visas and unclean water
could make it difficult to stay hydrated in some places. And, as we said previously, some areas fall under the conflicted regions in the world.

Well, we’ve looked at the negatives - now let's take a look at the wonderful sights we can see on this incredible journey. You won't be disappointed.

For a nice little warm-up, stroll to Cape Town’s famous Table Mountain. To get to the top takes around 2-3 hours, but it’s worth it with spectacular views of Cape Town and the southern coastline.

Chobe National Park and Okavango Delta are two of the best Botswanan National Parks, full of elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalo and zebra. There is plenty of opportunity to relax after your first 6 weeks of walking!

This waterfall is the world’s largest waterfall, with a width of 1,708m. Visitors can swim in the natural pools at the top, But due to their close proximity to the edge, being brave is a must. From Gaborone in Botswana to Victoria Falls, is a nice stretch of 22 days.

These two countries are changeable with the seasons and offer a variety of different views and geographical features including forests, volcanoes and even craters filled with wildlife as seen in the Atrium Crates, Sudan in the photo.

As a classic wonder of the world, the pyramids are a must-see. The sheer mathematical genius of the pyramids and the legends and mysteries surrounding them is something to behold.

From one wonder to another, Petra. Located in the south of the country, it is an archaeological site containing the Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) Temple, a magnificent building cut directly into the sandstone rock. It even appeared in 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'.

With charming walking routes around the lake and many remote hotels to stay in, this is a perfect place to relax and enjoy some fascinating history. In addition, you can also visit a 10th-century Armenian church on Akdamar Island.

Your final stop before Russia is Georgia. Enjoy some urban respite in the beautiful capital city of Tbilisi, a wonderfully picturesque place nuzzled below the towering Narikala, a 4th-century fortress. The complex history of this little known country is shown into the city’s architecture.

You may finally make it into Russia. In Russia, you’re bound to get a diverse flavour of the customs, quirks and diversity of this enormous nation.

You may even get a view of an eruption from the Shiveluch Volcano, located in central Kamchatka in the Far East of the Russian Federation 87 kilometers northwest of Ust-Kamchatsk.

On the north Russian coast of the Okhotsk Sea, you will start to go north towards your final destination. It looks beautiful here, but the sea water starts freezing around the end of October and can really be deadly. Great views of sea wildlife, however.

You have made it to the end of the journey. Magadan has long and cold winters but occasionally you get to see it's beautiful geography in all its glory. Exhausted? We are just thinking about it. The world's longest walk is said to be like climbing Mount Everest... 13 times!
