Kim Mi-soo, the Korean actress who died suddenly at age 29

Kim Mi-soo was a South Korean actress and model who became widely known for her role as Yeo Jeong-min in the currently ongoing Korean drama series, ‘Snowdrop’. She passed away suddenly and mysteriously on January 5, 2022. Kim Mi-soo was only 29 years old.

Born on 16 March 1992, Kim Mi-soo had a passion for acting and followed up on her dream by enrolling into the acting course at Korea National University of Arts.

Not much is known about Kim Mi-soo’s personal life as the late star was very private on social media. However, Newsunzip discovered that Kim Mi-soo was a child of a South Korean University professor Kim Seok-hoon.

Soon after graduating from her acting studies, Kim Mi-soo formally entered South Korean showbiz, debuting in ‘Lipstick Revolution’ in 2018.

‘Lipstick Revolution’ is a film that tells the story of a team of women’s rights activists in a South Korean university – causing mayhem by covering their entire campus in lipstick. The film was a common feature in film festivals celebrating women in South Korea, making it a big film for Kim Mi-soo to debut in.

Soon after, Kim Mi-soo went on to star in another film, ‘Kyungmi’s World’. The film was screened in the prestigious Busan International Film Festival in 2019.

Already establishing herself as a rather prolific actress from her acting work in ‘Lipstick Revolution’ and ‘Kyungmi’s World’, Kim Mi-soo went on to act in TV, with her first TV role in the 2020 drama ‘Hi Bye, Mama!’ as Cha Yeon-ji.

Besides ‘Hi Bye, Mama!’, Kim Mi-soo has also starred in ‘The School Nurse Files,’ ‘Hellbound,’ and ‘Yumi’s Cells’.

Kim Mi-soo’s biggest acting break came soon after, in 2021, when she landed a role in the South Korean TV hit drama ‘Snowdrop’. The series is still airing posthumously on JTBC and Disney+.

Alike her role in ‘Lipstick Revolution’, Kim Mi-soo plays a student activist in ‘Snowdrop’. Her role as Yeo Jeong-min drew the attention of ‘Snowdrop’ viewers because of the character’s cold but kind demeanour.

Kim Mi-soo’s role in ‘Snowdrop’ led her to meet BLACKPINK’s Jisoo. Both of them were co-stars on ‘Snowdrop’ and they had a pretty close relationship.

Following the reports of her sudden demise on January 5, it’s natural that Jisoo would mourn Kim Mi-soo’s passing with a tribute on social media. Jisoo captioned her post with the words “My dear 207” in Korean, referencing Kim Mi-soo’s character and role in ‘Snowdrop’ alongside the K-pop starlet.

‘Snowdrop’s’ lead actor Jung Hae-in followed suit in mourning Kim Mi-soo’s death, posting a photo tribute on Instagram of him and the deceased actress with other co-stars during happier times.

To date, it is not known of what Kim Mi-soo died from as the late actress’ agency, Landscape Entertainment, has refused to comment on the matter, Korea JoongAng Daily reports. In an official statement, the agency pleaded with the public to not “make false rumors or speculation so that the family can mourn in peace.”

‘Snowdrop’ currently is Kim Mi-soo’s last aired on-screen role to date. Channel News Asia reports that the actress was also due to star in Disney+'s ‘Kiss Six Sense’, which is due to air this year.
