David Guetta and K-pop girl group IVE's unlikely collaboration

Few people expected the release of 'Supernova Love', a collaboration between French electronic DJ David Guetta and K-pop girl group IVE in November 2024, especially due to the reputations of both David Guetta and IVE.

David Guetta is a French DJ and record producer who is considered one of the biggest names in the electronic music industry

Born Pierre David Guetta on November 7, 1967, in Paris, France, David Guetta first started his career in music in the 1980s and quickly moved up to DJ-ing in many famous clubs in Paris, reports Ultra Music.

David Guetta is quite the heavyweight in the electronic music world. In the years 2011, 2020 to 2023 in polls conducted by DJ Mag, he had earned the spot for ‘number one DJ’!

David Guetta has quite the hit track record with his producing of music, as many of his musical collaborations have become huge hits that have topped multiple music chart records.

Some of David Guetta’s hit collaborations include ‘When Love Takes Over’ with Kelly Rowland, ‘Gettin’ Over You’ with Ghris Willis, Fergie and LMFAO, ‘Titanium’ with Sia, and ‘Sexy B***h’ with Akon.

In his track record, David Guetta has collaborated with many western artists. Hence, this makes his collaboration with the K-pop girl group IVE so special, as it marks his first time working with K-pop and artists of Asian origin.

IVE is a six-member K-pop girl group managed by Starship Entertainment.

The members of IVE are Leeseo, Wonyoung, Liz, Rei, Yujin, and Gaeul.

Since their debut in 2021, IVE is known for their songs ‘Love Dive’, ‘After Like’, ‘Kitsch’, and ‘Baddie’.

Most recently, IVE is known for their latest release, ‘Supernova Love’, which was released on November 8 this year.

What was most intriguing was that this is the exact song that marks a milestone in both David Guetta and the K-pop girl group’s careers!

According to The Korea Herald, the song was made with the intent to bridge the gap between K-pop and western music! Thus, this was where David Guetta and IVE came in.

Not only was the song a milestone in David Guetta’s career in marking his first collaboration with the K-pop industry, but this also marks IVE’s biggest collaboration yet, to have been granted the privilege of working with one of the top names in the music industry.

‘Supernova Love’ also features the work of the late Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto in the song, as elements from one of his iconic songs, ‘Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence’, were sampled for the song.

Despite the collaboration involving big names like David Guetta, IVE, and Ryuichi Sakamoto posthumously, the reception for ‘Supernova Love’ has been rather lukewarm. Sadly, it did not score well on music charts in South Korea and abroad. Maybe there will be another chance?
