Kirk Thomas Cameron

Kirk Thomas Cameron was born on October 12, 1970, in Panorama City, Los Angeles. No one would have imagined that he, like his sister Candace Cameron, would become television idols of the 1980s and 1990s.

Model debut

Before starting as an actor, Kirk Cameron started out as a model. At the age of 11, he took his first steps on television in the series 'Bret Maverick.'

Kirk Cameron in 'Growing Pains'

After many small roles, Kirk Cameron finally found success thanks to the series 'Growing Pains.' He played the character of Mike Seaver, one of the children of Doctor Seaver.

A success for seven seasons

For seven seasons (1985-1992), the series was a huge international hit. It has been exported to more than 20 countries. The Seaver Family was a weekly must-watch for many viewers. And, in case you didn't know, the young Leonardo DiCaprio even appeared in the last season.

Cameron was a bigger star than DiCaprio

DiCaprio played Luke Browen, a young man abandoned by his father who is taken in by the Seaver family. The two actors became good friends during filming, but it was Cameron who, at that time, was more successful.

An acting talent

The fame of Kirk Cameron increased. He was the teen idol that covered the walls, high school lockers, and the hearts of millions of fans. And, despite his youth, he was highly respected in film and television circles.

His faith started to affect his work

In 1991, when the series was at its peak, Kirk Cameron embraced the faith of the evangelical branch of New Christians. Following his new faith and taking advantage of his influence, he began to censor the scripts he deemed inappropriate. Cameron also demanded the dismissal of certain collaborators.

Kirk Cameron and religious cinema

Cameron was less successful as a film actor than on television, despite his star aura. Maybe that was because he chose to star mostly in religious films.

Example: 'Like Father Like Son' (1987)

Let's look at this one, for example: 'Like Father Like Son.' It's a film of average to questionable quality in which Cameron plays a teenager confronted with the demands of his father.

Fireproof (2008): Christian fire

In 2008, Kirk Cameron starred in Pastor Alex Kendrick's 'Fireproof'. Very Christian in inspiration, the film tells the story of Caleb Holt, a dedicated firefighter who is experiencing a serious relationship crisis.

Saving Christmas (2014): Raspberry champion

In 2014, the actor appeared in 'Saving Christmas' and the least we can say is that the success was not there. The film was awarded in four categories of the Raspberry Awards, a parody prize that rewards the worst films of the year. And Kirk Cameron received the award for the worst actor...

His marriage to Chelsea Noble

Kirk Cameron married Chelsea Noble in 1991. They had met on the set of 'Growing Pains' where she played his girlfriend Kate. They have never left each other since.

Six children

Kirk Cameron and Chelsea Noble have six children together, four of whom are adopted: Jack (born in 1996), Isabella (1997), Anna (1998), Luke (2000), Olivia Rose (2001), and James Thomas (2003).

Ultra-religious: The Way of the Master

Today, Kirk Cameron is the leader of the ultra-religious association 'The Way of the Master', which he co-founded in 2002. The actor and his organization have made themselves known over the years for their creationist and homophobic positions.

Kirk Cameron: a staunch conservative

Kirk Cameron is also a staunch conservative and threw his support behind Donald Trump in 2016 and the Republican Party. The actor also organized rallies of thousands of people without masks in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, to protest against Covid restrictions.
