Why Lenny Kravitz hasn't slept with anyone in 9 years

Lenny Kravitz, the handsome rockstar touring Europe and the US this summer, revealed that he's been celibate for 9 years. Whatever happened to s e x and drugs and rock 'n' roll?

He may be 60 years old, but there's a lot going on with Lenny Kravitz this year. The rockstar, famous for tracks like 'Always on the Run,' 'Fly Away,' and 'It Ain't Over Till It's Over,' got multiple honors in 2024. Here you see him with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in March 2024. He has also been nominated to be included in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

During his big European tour, Kravitz played one of the best-watched live shows of the year. He opened for the final of the Champions League, a soccer event that draws hundreds of millions of viewers across the world - more than the Super Bowl.

The rockstar played 'Fly Away,' 'Human,' and 'Are You Gonna Go My Way,' briefly drowning out the tens of thousands of singing soccer fans in the London Wembley stadium. He showed the crowd that, at 60 years old, he was as fit as anyone there.

Maybe he's in great shape because he has some remarkable routines in his daily life. A few days before his big show in Europe, Kravitz told The Guardian about his disciplined workouts. He also confessed that he hadn't slept with anyone in 9 years!

As Kravitz told the interviewer, he wanted to be celibate until he found the right person, and he hadn't been in a relationship for 9 years. So that makes 9 years of celibacy! Kravitz explains his choice as "a spiritual thing."

As CNN reports, it was not the first time the attractive rock star hinted at being celibate. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning in 2008, Kravitz said that celibacy "is going to help me find the right person."

One reason for his strict discipline when it comes to relationships, is that he doesn't want to end up like his father. As he told The Guardian, Kravitz grew up in a family where his dad cheated a lot. For a while, during and after his marriage to Lisa Bonet, the rocker was like that too. "I was becoming a player," he told The Guardian.

Kravitz admits he didn't like to be a player like his dad. "I didn't want to be that guy. So I had to tackle that... by taking responsibility. Discipline. Not letting my own desires take over." It took him years to be the disciplined guy he is now.

He also told CBS that he wasn't "going to waver on" his celibacy because it's "a promise I made to God three years ago." So there's an element of religion in his choice of abstinence as well.

Who would have thought such a thing from the man who brought us one of the spiciest music videos of 2023? As the magazine Pride reports, in the video of 'TK421', "the singer rolls out of bed [without clothes] and then proceeds to turn away from the camera to open the curtains, giving us a shot of his bare a s s e t s ."

From his 2024 interview in The Guardian, it seems Lenny Kravitz won't change his status anytime soon either. "I have become very set in my ways, in the way I live." The rock star explains that he has a very strict daily routine to stay healthy, both physically and mentally.

As Kravitz explains, he stopped using grass a few years ago and now goes to the gym a lot. "There's a lot of hard work and discipline in being healthy for me. That means when I want to eat junk, I don't do it." The result is an impeccable six-pack and a waist of 28 inches.

"Take last night," he told the Guardian interviewer. "I worked all day, interviews, rehearsing into the night, get home at 11pm. I need to eat something. Now it's 1am. I didn't get my workout. So I went to the gym and I did a 90-minute workout at 2am. I don't want to be in the gym at 2am, but I know that I must... Because it's part of my discipline - it's about body, mind and spirit. I want all of those three elements aligned."

Working out is so important to him, that he sometimes just walks into the gym without changing into his sports gear! In an Instagram video in 2024, we could see Lenny Kravitz lifting gigantic weights while wearing his unmistakable skinny leather jeans. It looks like he's always in character!

"Yep," he explained to The Guardian. "If I’m coming from somewhere and my trainer says we can get it in now, then I'll come as I am. A lot of the time I'm in street clothes, which people think is funny."

Sometimes even the great Lenny Kravitz has a wardrobe malfunction. A famous incident, as The Guardian remembers, was the time he was rocking on stage and his leather jeans tore open, right between his legs. The superstar doesn't wear underpants, everything was visible for the whole world to see!

As it turns out, Kravitz is nonchalant about the seemingly embarrassing display. "You just have to go with it," he says, "What can you do?" He did not start wearing underpants after the accident. "I just made sure the pants I had were working."

Now, let's hope his pants hold out when he's touring Germany, Norway, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy this summer...!
