Margot Robbie is pregnant, welcoming first child with husband Tom Ackerley

The 34-year-old 'Barbie' star is expecting her first child with her partner Tom Ackerley, People magazine reported, citing multiple sources. The couple did not confirm the news directly, nor did sources say how far along she is. Her last red carpet appearance was in April, 2024.

He was born in 1990 — the same year and just a month behind Robbie — but a long way from her native Australia. He was born in Surrey, England. When he was young, he got a taste of the film industry by appearing as a Slytherin extra in the first three installments of ‘Harry Potter’ from 2004 to 2001.

After taking a break from movies, he got back into the game as a production runner for films and TV shows like ‘Gambit’ and ‘Rush’ starting in 2011. After that, he worked as an assistant director… which would be where his path would cross with his wife-to-be…

In 2013, when they were both just 22, he met Margot Robbie on the set of the movie 'Suite Francaise’ and they started dating soon after. However, it was a challenge to keep together not only due to the young age… but also because of Robbie’s acting gigs around the world.

Speaking about the early days of the relationship, Robbie told Australia’s Daily Telegraph that the secret to their early success, despite long-distance filming, is not to go more than three weeks without seeing eachother. “Being in a long-distance relationship can be really hard when you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. It can mess with your head, so the three-week rule is key,” she said.

The blonde’s major Hollywood breakthrough was in the film ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ but her role, treatment, and fame had her questioning whether she wanted to continue acting. And while she told Vanity Fair that her mom convinced her not to quit, she decided she wanted to take more control.

So, in 2014, Robbie, Tom Ackerley and their best friends Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr founded the production company LuckyChap Entertainment. It focuses on female-focused film and TV projects and has won 25 Oscar nominations, producing massive hits like ‘Barbie,’ ‘I, Tonya’ and the Netflix series ‘Maid.’

In Dec. 2016, when they were both 27, the couple quietly got hitched in Australia in 2016. She only responded to rumors by showing off her ring days later on Instagram. They now live together in Los Angeles.

While Robbie has talked about funny anecdotes about him wearing too-tight shorts on their Honeymoon or his fear of snakes on talk shows, Ackerly has shied away from the press for the most part. “He likes being behind the camera, he’s not phased by any of this stuff. It’s just the best,” Robbie told E! News.

Breaking the tradition of mainly shielding away from the public eye, Ackerly was a lot more present in the very public marketing campaign surrounding ‘Barbie,’ walking with his stunning wife at the premiere and even giving interviews of his own. Speaking to Deadline, he said he and Robbie loved the script but thought the movie would be impossible to make!

While Ackerley may be lesser known, their production company is on a major role! The aptly named LuckyChap also produced the 2023 film 'Saltburn.' But in the pipeline are more potential critical and/or commercial hits based on games like 'The Sims' and 'Monopoly' as well as the Yorgos Lanthimos take of the very strange book 'My Year of Rest and Relaxation.' However, with a baby on the way, those projects may be pushed back. We shall see!
