'John Wick' star made a list of favorite films at a friend's request

It all came about, according to Esquire magazine, from a conversation between Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. They are not only 'Matrix' movie workmates but also good friends.

To watch with their children

The actress asked her friend for a list of films to watch with her three teenage children. Keanu Reeves came up with a list... but some of the titles may be dubious as to whether they would be recommended for very young viewers.

Keanu's list

Be that as it may, here is the list published by Esquire with the films that Keanu Reeves highly recommends watching to broaden our cinematic knowledge.

The Neon Demon - 2016

Between thriller, horror, a certain experimental tone, and, above all, an absolutely fantastic Elle Fanning. Not suitable for all stomachs.

A Clockwork Orange - 1971

Stanley Kubrick dared to enter 1995 in 1971, with a charismatic, violent, and addictive lead character such as Alex DeLarge.

Rollerball - 1975

Norman Jewison, back in 1975, imagined a dystopian future in 2018 in which large corporations dominated all social sectors, while Rollerball was the most popular sport.

The Bad Batch - 2016

Without an arm, without a leg, and banished to an inhospitable place, ravaged by cannibals, Arlen will try to survive and get out of a situation that can't get any worse. Or can it? With Jason Momoa, Suki Waterhouse, and Keanu Reeves himself.

Dr. Strangelove - 1964

One of the best black comedies in history, it has Stanley Kubrick's signature and the Cold War in the background, with Peter Sellers playing three incredible characters.

Seven Samurai - 1954

Akira Kurosawa laid the foundations for contemporary action films. A masterpiece on its way to 70 years of age, it is still relevant and a very current film.

Amadeus - 1984

Milos Forman takes the rivalry between Mozart and Salieri to another level. His film won 7 Oscars out of 11 nominations, making it one of the best films ever made.

Raising Arizona - 1987

Nicolas Cage with a mustache - is there anything else you need to see in this film? This wacky Coen comedy follows H.I. and Edwina, a couple who can't have children and decide to steal a baby from a couple who just had quintuplets.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail - 1975

The second Monty Python film is a prodigy of absurdist humor. With the legend of King Arthur as a plot excuse, every scene is a sketch of wonderful comedy quality.

The Outlaw Josey Wales - 1976

Clint Eastwood directs, stars, and seeks revenge. The filmmaker has dominated Hollywood for more than half a century, and this movie is one of Keanu Reeves' favorites.

The Evil Dead - 1981

A classic B-movie horror film and the beginning of the saga that made Bruce Campbell a legend of that genre. The chainsaw scene is cinema history.

Nikita: La Femme Nikita - 1990

One of the first anti-heroines came from France and was a legend in the 90s. Nikita is a violent young woman convicted of murdering a policeman. In exchange for a commutation of her sentence, she is trained to carry out high-risk missions.

The Big Lebowski - 1998

The Coens sneak another of their masterpieces into Keanu Reeves' list. The Dude, played by Jeff Bridges, is the film's hero. He is mistaken for a millionaire, which leads to a curious deal. Brilliant performances all around.

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead - 1990

Tom Stoppard adapts this play to film with extreme skill. It tells the story of Prince Hamlet through the eyes of two Shakespearean supporting actors, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Young Frankenstein - 1974

Mel Brooks is a comedic genius. And when you have two leading men with the chemistry of Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman, it makes it all that much easier. The story centers on Doctor Frankenstein's grandson trying to clear the family name, without too much success.

Leon - 1994

Luc Besson introduced the world to a very young Natalie Portman. She played a girl on the verge of adolescence, clinging to her relationship with a hitman played by Jean Reno. Beautiful and conflicting, this film is a masterpiece.

Mad Max 2: Road Warrior - 1981

George Miller knew that he had a goldmine with Mad Max and in this second installment, he turned his main character into the savior of a colony of survivors in the dystopian future.

Blazing Saddles - 1974

Another legendary Mel Brooks comedy, and again, with Gene Wilder and a sheriff whose mission, instead of enforcing the law, is to foment chaos and disorder. Governor Le Petomane, played by Brooks, is one of the best characters in comedy.

Excellent cinematic taste

A pretty good selection but, as we said previously, maybe not all are PG-13. Still, Keanu Reeves picked a lot of great comedies and has some good recommendations in other genres too. The 'John Wick' star is not only the nicest guy in Hollywood but also the best film connaisseur.
