The Daily Record accessed the actor's death certificate as it had been registered by his ex-wife, Rhona Gemmell Coltrane, in Glasgow (Scotland).
The autopsy report indicates that the actor died at the age of 72 due to multiple organ failure.
The death certificate indicates that the actor suffered from sepsis, a lower respiratory tract infection, heart block, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.
The combination of these ailments caused the actor to die on October 14, 2022.
The publication of the death certificate not only clarifies the causes of the actor's death but also puts an end to the speculation by many people on social media.
Due to the lack of official information for more than a week since the actor's death, fans speculated about what might have killed him.
All people knew, as reported by 'Daily Record', was that the actor passed away at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert (Falkirk, Scotland), after feeling unwell for some time.
The aforementioned outlet also points out that, in recent years, Robbie Coltrane had coped with severe mobility problems.
In fact, 'Daily Record' claims that the actor used a wheelchair to move around. He also allegedly suffered constant pain due to his illnesses.
One of Robbie Coltrane's great supports was Rhona Gemmell, the partner he divorced in 2003 after four years of marriage, the 'Daily Star' notes.
The couple separated amicably. They had two children together: Spencer and Alice.
