Robert Allen Zimmerman, or as we all know him, Bob Dylan was born on May 24th, 1941. It is hard to believe that this legendary singer-songwriter is 81 years old!

Over 60 years in music

With a career in music that has lasted more than 60 years, it is no surprise he is considered by many to be one of the most talented songwriters of all time. Join us as we take a look at some of the most iconic photos of Bob Dylan over the past six decades.

It all started in 1960...

At 19 years of age in 1960 Bob Dylan quit college. After finishing his first year, he knew he needed to pursue his passion: music.

1961

By 1961 Bob was a frequent performer in Greenwich Village. Here we see an old photograph of Dylan performing at Gerde's Folk City.

1963

1965

Here we see Bob Dylan with the pop duo Sonny and Cher, at Atlantic Studios in 1965. Sonny and Cher did a cover of Dylan's song 'All I Really Want to Do,' and Cher did a solo cover of 'Like a Rolling Stone.' Later Tom Waits and Bob Dylan did a cover of Sonny and Cher's 'I Got You Babe.'

1970

In 1965, Bob Dylan played with a band and electric guitar for the first time. It got him a lot of booing, but eventually he won over (most of) his fans.

1975

Bob Dylan and Neil Young blew up the stage in 1975 at Bill Graham's SNACK Benefit (Students Need Athletics, Culture and Kicks) at Golden Gate Park on March 23, 1975 in San Francisco, California.

1980

Bob has always known how to keep up with the fashion of the times but still maintain a look that is true to him. In the 1980s, Dylan rocked it with his earring and leathers!

1985

1995

Bob Dylan may have performed with every rock legend there is. Here is Dylan in 1995 playing "Forever Young" with Bruce Springsteen during the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

2000

In the year 2000, Bob Dylan was a presenter at the Grammy Awards. Here Dylan gives singer Carlos Santana the award for the Album of the Year during the 42d Annual Grammy Award in Los Angeles.

2012

You know you are a legend when you receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from the coolest president the States has ever had. In 2012 Bob Dylan had the honor of receiving this medal from President Barak Obama.

2019

Dylan has still got it! In 2019 Bob performed alongside Neil Young at Hyde Park in London, England.

2020

In June of 2020, Dylan released his 39th studio album and first album with original songs since 2012. So if you haven't checked it out 'Rough and Rowdy Ways' yet, you really should, especially since it has won critical acclaim and the number won a spot in more than ten different countries.

What's next?

We aren't sure if 'Rough and Rowdy Ways' will be Dylan's last studio album or not, but we won't be surprised if it isn't. One thing is certain, songwriters and artists with talent like Bob Dylan are truly special.
