Bad news about Celine Dion's health

Céline Dion's health has worsened significantly in recent months. The Canadian artist's family is worried and devastated.

No muscle control

Claudette Dion, Celine's sister and also a singer, told the Canadian program '7 Jours' that the star "does not have control of her muscles."

Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS)

The legendary voice of the 'Titanic' soundtrack is suffering from a rare disease known as Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). It is said to affect only one person in a million.

Degenerative and without cure

Diagnosed in December 2022, this neurological disease attacks the central nervous system. It causes muscle spasms and a stiffening of the limbs.

Concerts canceled

Celine Dion already had to cancel the 'Courage World Tour' due to her illness. It had scheduled concerts until April 2024.

Harsh reality

Worse than that, however, is the fact that she suffers from a degenerative disease for which neither treatments nor therapies are working. Her situation will only get worse.

Her family is concerned

"Vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle. That is what really hits me," commented Claudette Dion in the Canadian TV show. Not only will it be hard for Celine to sing, but she may also suffer heart failure.

A rare illness, not much research available

"Because it’s a one out of a million case, the scientists haven’t done that much research because it hasn’t affected that many people," her sister adds.

Celine Dion herself spoke about the condition

Claudette's words confirm what Celine Dion herself already shared on Instagram.

Problems walking and singing

"These spasms affect every aspect of my life," she told her followers, "sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to."

She keeps working as much as she can

Despite everything, the artist continues to work as much as she can. "I have a great team of doctors working alongside me to help me get better, and my precious children who are supporting me and giving me hope," she commented on social media.

A global star with a long career

Celine Dion has proven to be a hard worker and an entertainer capable of moving crowds across the world. She became known for winning the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, participating on behalf of Switzerland.

Breaking ground in several ways

Since then, she's sold millions of albums, sung record-breaking hits like 'My Heart Will Go On', and filled stadiums across the world, including a lucrative Las Vegas residence. Dion is considered a groundbreaking representative of French-language music and a frontrunner for the Vegas residence trend among superstars.

Discovered by her future husband

The one who would guide her through the hoops of the entertainment world and coach her to be a star was René Angélil. They met when she was 12 and he was 38.

Married to René Angélil

Throughout her teen years, she was secretly in love with him, but they didn't get into a romantic relationship, she claims, until she was 20, in 1988. Celine Dion married the person she considered the love of her life in 1993 when she was 25 years old.

A huge setback in 2016

Tragically, René Angélil died in 2016 due to throat cancer. It was a big setback for Celine Dion. And, as her sister Claudette revealed, it was the same disease that took her husband.

Despite loss and illness, a positive note

Despite everything, Claudette Dion made some optimistic statements about her sister's determination to keep performing. She said Celine had a strong desire to get back on stage. "In what capacity? I don't know." But if Celine Dion can find any way of saying goodbye to her fans from the stage, it seems clear that she will do so.
