Harry soon realized the folk scene wasn't for her and tried out several other bands. Eventually, Debbie and Chris Stein founded the group Blondie. The band quickly gained popularity and performed regularly at CBGB in New York City. The rest is history.
Debbie and Chris were in a relationship from before they started Blondie. The pair met in 1974 when they both were in the band Stilletoes. They stayed together until 1989 when they broke up.
As Blondie grew in popularity, Debbie Harry was a constant feature on the cover of different magazines.

With their newfound fame, the band and Debbie often brushed shoulders with the megastars of the time. Here we see Teddy Pendergrass, Meat Loaf, and Deborah Harry around 1980.

Harry probably knew she had really "made it" when Andy Warhol used her as a muse! In 1980 Warhol made several pieces taken from a single photo-shoot of Debbie done at the Factory.
Andy Warhol made four canvas portraits of Debbie Harry in a variety of colours along with some rare silver gelatine prints from the shoot.
In 1981 Blondie took a year-long break, and Harry took time to focus on her solo career. The album 'KooKoo' came out in 1981, reaching number 25 in the US and number 6 in the UK.

The band Blondie split up in 1982. Debbie Harry spent the rest of the 1980s working on her own music, which was well-received by fans.
In 1987 Debbie tried her hand at acting. She landed a starring role in the comedy 'Forever, Lulu' in which she starred alongside Alec Baldwin. Here we see Harry with Matt Dylan and Richard Gere at an event in 1987.
During the 1990s, Harry continued to find success both as a solo artist and an actress. Here we see her with Joey Ramone at the Tom Tom Club.
To the delight of fans in 1997, Blondie reunited after a long 15-year break. Nostalgia was a big part of their success in the 90s and 2000s because Debbie Harry had been a teen idol for an entire generation growing up in the 70s and 80s.
