Eric Roberts: the prolific actor overshadowed by his sister
Eric Anthony Roberts, Julia Roberts’ brother, started his career with a bang, earning a Golden Globe nomination for his debut in 'King of the Gypsies' in 1978. This film launched a wildly prolific Hollywood career, even if it he didn't achieve the same level of fame as his sister.
In 1985, Roberts scored an Oscar nomination for his role in 'Runaway Train.' His performance as Buck McGeehy showed he could nail intense dramatic roles.
According to IMDb, Roberts has over 700 credits to his name and 88 more projects on the way. He’s the seventh actor with the most screen credits, which is wild considering he’s never been a household name.
Roberts has also made a mark on TV, like his role as Salvatore Maroni in 'The Dark Knight,' which earned him a new generation of fans.
Eric comes from a seriously talented family. His sister, Julia Roberts, and his daughter, Emma Roberts, have also made big splashes in Hollywood.
According to media outlet Espinof, Roberts filmed 74 movies in a single year in 2018. His passion for acting is unstoppable, showing an incredible work ethic despite past struggles with drug addiction.
Roberts is known for his philanthropic work, supporting various charities and using his fame for good causes.
Throughout his career, Roberts has played a huge variety of characters, showing off his versatility and ability to adapt to any role.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Roberts admitted he’s lost count of the movies he’s done. “I lost count at 74, but somebody told me it's in the hundreds. I don't check," he said.
At 68, Eric Roberts is still going strong in the entertainment industry, in the states and around the globe. He also publicly spoke out about his chilled relationship with famous sister Julia Roberts. This comment has certainly earned him sympathy points in Hollywood.
"I actually used to be one of the biggest stars in Russia, bigger than Arnie [Schwarzenegger], bigger than Sly [Stallone]. But then Putin invaded Ukraine and in an interview I said I stood with Ukraine, so I was canceled right away and couldn’t work there," Roberts told Hollywood Reporter.
"But we're so disappointed in Putin," he continued, "I wouldn't want to go there anyway. But that was half my income, from working in Russia. So I go to other places now," he told the Hollywood Reporter.
