Successes and many challenges...

As a result, viewers have seen how the kids have grown up, changed, successes, and challenges.

From frump to fab!

One thing that certainly has changed drastically is the family's sense of style! Click on to see how the Duggar family, particularly the Duggar daughters, went from frump to fab!

Duggar kids 1994

This picture of oldest six Duggar kids is adorable, a pretty typical family portrait for the early 1990s...

Always covered

....however, due to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's modesty standards, their little girls were nearly always dressed in pinafore dresses.

Standing out

The family really got stuck on this look, and since the children were homeschooled, they probably didn't realize that this look was not exactly in style anymore.... indeed, Jana Duggar stood out wearing this outfit!

Michelle loved a good pilgrim collar

Michelle often dressed similar to her daughters, wearing ankle-length pinafore dresses with pilgrim collared blouses and her very voluminous long hair.

Stuck in the 80s

Here we see the Duggar sisters in 2004! Yes, you read that right! Pictured from left to right are Jinger, Jessa, Jill, Jana, and little Joy-Anna Duggar while filming TLC's first-ever special on the family, '14 Kids and Pregnant Again.'

The boys had it better

The boys got off a little better than the girls, and their standard everyday dress code was polos and khakis, as we see here in another shot from the television special on the family.

A mild improvement

By the time the family got their regular show on TLC '17 Kids and Counting,' they'd finally "modernized" their style a bit.

Improving their image

The older girls began to sport t-shirts or modest blouses with long, "modern" skirts. They also toned down the hair a bit and went with just long curls.

Legalistic values

However, the Duggar family was always very vocal about sharing how important keeping the female body covered and being modest was to them.

Jinger

One of the biggest changes in Duggar style has been from Jinger Vuolo (Duggar). She went from covering it all to....

Who wears short shorts?

...to flaunting her legs! Once Jinger got married she quickly changed up her style and broke away from her parents strict rules. Girl were not allowed to wear shorts in the Duggar household.

What a rebel

Jinger also began to wear pants on a regular basis, another item of clothing that her parents deemed inappropriate for women and girls to wear.

Bye-bye strict dress code

Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo also allow their daughters to dress "freely", their little girls have frequently been seen wearing short skirs, shorts, and pants.

Jill

Jill Duggar often came across as the "goody two-shoes" of the family on '19 Kids and Counting.' She respected her parents strict dress code and parroted their values.

Jeans...

So fans were shocked when Jill started wearing jeans and pants....

...and a nose ring!!

....but then Jill blew everyone's mind when she shared she had pierced her nose!

Freedom

Much like Jinger, Jill has enjoyed the freedom married life has brought and the chance to explore new fashion choices.

Modest but modern

The rest of the women in the family haven't loosened up quite as much as Jinger and Jill, however, they have certainly updated their style.

The Duggar girls share their style on social media

Now they've become quite popular on social for their modern yet modest sense of style.

Jessa is still very modest

In particular Jessa, who still even wears modest swim-dresses as she did when she was a child. Just a much cuter version.

Modest but fitting in

The younger girls still living at home still have to abide by Michelle and Jim Bob Duggars modest rules, but at least they fit in with average girls nowadays.

No knees allowed!

However, it seems the Duggar parents don't want their girls showing their knees! Whenever a Duggar child has a slightly shorter skirt or dress it is ALWAYS paired with leggings.

Jana is allowed to wear pants!

And Jana Duggar, who although unmarried and still living at home, seems to be allowed to set her own dress code finally. The 30-soemthing oldest Duggar sister is often seen sporting pants these days.

Duggar style has come a long way

But they certainly have come a long way from their days of frumpy thrift store jumpers!
