Gilmore Girls: see how the actors and actresses have changed
On October 5, 2000, 'Gilmore Girls' premiered: a family-friendly show written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. From the first episode, the show was an absolute hit.
Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel were the protagonists of the series: a mother and her daughter in the fictional town of Stars Hollow where life mostly seemed calm but dramas unfolded under the surface.
The series lasted for seven seasons, though fans would have liked to see many more. What happened to the cast since the show ended?
Lorelai Gilmore was the absolute protagonist of 'Gilmore Girls.' Her character was a single woman that gets pregnant at only 16 years old and has to take care of her daughter without her family's support. A comic role that quickly connected with the audience and transformed Lauren into a star.
Since she left 'Gilmore Girls,' Graham has continued her career on television, for example in 'The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers' (2021-2022). She is also a writer and has published three novels: 'Someday, Someday, Maybe,' 'Talking As Fast As I Can', and 'In Conclusion, Don't Worry About It.'
Graham played a significant part in the show 'Parenthood' as one of the Braverman siblings. It was there where she met her co-star and future husband, Peter Krause.
The young Rory Gilmore was the other main character of the show. She is a 16-year-old girl who gets into a prestigious secondary school and dreams about getting into Harvard University. Studies aren't the only thing she's interested in though. Dean, Jess, and Logan will be the boys of her life.
Alexis Bledel's career has continued after the show. We saw her in famous movies like 'Sin City' and 'The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants'. However, her biggest role came years later with the hit show 'The Handmaid's Tale', where she played Ofglen.
As for her romantic life, the actress has been married to the actor Vincent Kartheiser since 2014.
The iconic Luke was the owner of the Café that Lorelai and Rory always went to. He was played by Scott Patterson. His character's relationship with Lorelai was one of the most followed stories in the show (the audience had to wait for four seasons to watch them kiss).
With the end of 'Gilmore Girls,' Patterson's acting career entered calmer waters. However, he's still linked to the art world with his Blues, Rock, and Punk band, 'Smithradio'.
The always meddling mother of Lorelai, Emily Gilmore, was played by the experienced actress Kelly Bishop.
After the show, the actress continued with her acting career doing some episodes on different TV shows. In 2022, she played a recurring role in the HBO Max show 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'.
Lane is Rory's best friend and the passionate leader of a local band. She was born in Korea but lives in Stars Hollow with her extravagant parents: Mr. and Mrs. Kim.
Keiko Agena's acting career basically ended at the same time the show did. Fun fact about her: when she played the 16-year-old Lane in the first season, the actress was 27 years old.
Jess Mariano was one of Rory's love interests. What many people may not know is that while filming 'Gilmore Girls', Milo Ventimiglia and Alexis Bledel fell in love in real life. Their relationship lasted for a good four years.
After 'Gilmore Girls,' Milo Ventimiglia has successfully continued with his acting career in shows like 'Heroes' and 'This is us.'
Sookie St. James is Lorelai's best friend and a neurotic but highly talented cook in Lorelai's inn. Her story was an example of how the show managed to zoom in on strong female characters.
Along with Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, Melissa McCarthy is definitely one of the most successful cast members after 'Gilmore Girls.' She starred in movies like 'Tammy', 'Spy', and 'Bridesmaids,' as well as the Amazon Prime show 'Nine Perfect Strangers.'
Dean Forester was Rory's first big love in 'Gilmore Girls.' He was a good but troubled kid.
After 63 episodes in the hit show, Jared Padalecki had the opportunity to participate in other shows like 'Supernatural' and 'Walker', and in films like 'New York Minute' and 'House of Wax.'
Logan Huntzberger was the rich spoiled boy who fell in love with Rory and caused her to break up with high-school sweetheart Dean.
In real life, the actor Matt Czuchry has continued working in the industry in shows like 'The Good Wife' or 'The Resident.'
Edward Herrmann was Emily's loving husband and Lorelai's father. While Emily would often voice her disappointment about Lorelai's lifestyle as a single mother, her father Richard was much more lenient.
Sadly, at 71 years old, the actor passed away from brain cancer. However, he left us with a remarkable number of movies such as 'Nixon,' 'The Aviator', and 'The Wolf of Wall Street.' We also saw him in TV shows like 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Law and Order,' and '30 Rock.'
The actress Liza Weil was Rory's 'frenemy' in 'Gilmore Girls.' A lot of fans couldn't help but feel bad for her, though, when Rory landed better career opportunities than her overachieving friend.
Liza Weil was Bonnie Winterbottom in 'How to Get Away With Murder,' but she's been taking it easy in showbiz since then.
He was an iconic character of the show: the grumpy and fiercely sarcastic Michel, Lorelai's assistant in the Dragonfly Inn.
After the show, the actor hasn't been involved in any successful productions, although we have seen him in TV movies like 'A Christmas Exchange'.
He was one of the funniest and most quirky characters on the show. In every episode, Kirk surprised the girls (and the audience) with different and surreal situations.
After 'Gilmore Girls,' we have seen Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri in the Marvel universe.
David Sutcliffe made everyone fall in love with Rory's father in 'Gilmore Girls.' It didn't work out between him and Lorelai, but we were still glad to see him in Stars Hollow once in a while.
Although he appeared in some projects after 'Gilmore Girls', the actor retired in 2019 looking for a more spiritual way of life.
