Henry Cavill, secrets of a superhero actor

Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill was born on 5 May 1983 on the British island of Jersey. The son of a secretary and a stockbroker, he was the fourth out of five siblings.

Henry Cavill spent several years at the Stowe School, a boarding school in Buckingham, England. This photo comes from the school's yearbook. The actor recalls in Details magazine that he was bullied as a child. They used to call him 'Fat Cavill' at school.

Henry Cavill began to flirt with the world of acting when he was still a child. He began to play classic characters in the school theater.

While acting was his first choice, Cavill has also revealed in several interviews that he wanted to be a soldier or a historian when he was younger.

Henry Cavill says became certain of acting when, as a child, he met actor Russell Crowe. The Australian star came to his school to film some scenes for a movie. Henry was an extra in the scenes and took the opportunity to ask Crowe for advice.

Twelve years after this meeting, Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe reunited. The occasion: the film 'Man of Steel'. Apparently, it took Russell Crowe three months to realize that Cavill was that little boy with whom he had spoken over a decade earlier.

Henry Cavill's film debut came with 'Laguna' in 2001. The actor played the main character, Thomas Aprea.

In 2009, Henry Cavill played the character of Randy Lee James in 'Whatever Works', alongside Evan Rachel Wood. The comedy was directed and written by Woody Allen and starred comedian Larry David. The production was a big step away from Cavill's more dramatic performances.

In 2011, Henry Cavill became the protagonist of a fantasy action film. In 'Immortals' he played Theseus. It would be the precursor to his successful Superman movies.

With 'Man of Steel' (2013), Henry Cavill became famous among an immense audience. He even won an MTV Movie Award for playing the famous Clark Kent.

The saga continued in 2016 with 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', a film in which Cavill shared the screen with Ben Affleck (Batman).

In 2017, Henry Cavill played Superman again in the film 'Justice League'. His co-stars were Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher and Ben Affleck. In 2021, the movie would be re-released as a four-hour-long cut by director Zack Snyder.

A year after his 'Justice League' shoot, Henry Cavill signed up for another action role: he starred alongside Tom Cruise in a new part of the 'Mission: Impossible' saga: 'Fallout.'

One of Cavill's best known roles is that of the Witcher in the gripping fantasy series of the same name. In late 2019, the actor appeared on millions of home screens as Geralt of Rivia, a very powerful wizard who, in addition to hunting monsters, set out to protect a young orphan princess.

A secret of the shooting of 'The Witcher'? The long (very long) make-up and hairdressing sessions that the actor has to endure in order to get into the skin of his magic character.

The actor has a truly enviable physique, which is the result of hours and hours of gymnastics and a healthy diet. His routines include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes.

As for Henry Cavill's love life, we know that he had a relationship with actress Kaley Cuoco in 2013. And then, in 2018, there were many Instagram pictures of him and stuntwoman Lucy Cork. No relationship was confirmed, though.

A long-lasting love of Cavill's is that for his pets. Whenever he can, the actor shows off his dog. In the photo we see his great friend Khal.

In 2021, it seemed like Superman had found his real-life Lois Lane. Cavill appeared in public with Hollywood executive Natalie Viscuso and went 'Instagram official' with her in the spring.

Viscuso works at Legendary Entertainment, one of the companies behind Cavill's movie 'Enola Holmes' (Netflix, 2020). For that reason, several media have suggested that the two met because of this film.

After the Tudor, the wizard, the spy, and the Superman, Henry Cavill becomes no one other than Sherlock Holmes in the Netflix movie. He is the brother of Millie Bobby Brown who plays teen detective Enola Holmes.

In 2022, a sequel to 'Enola Holmes' is coming out, as well as 'Argylle,' a spy film directed by Matthew Vaughn and featuring a star cast.
