A cerebral haemorrhage

The world had to wait until the end of 2024 to find out about the medical complication that kept him in a coma for 20 days: a brain haemorrhage that almost cost him his life.

A long wait

It's been almost two years of waiting and even of suffering for many of his fans, but everyone agrees that it has been worth the wait.

Making humour out of misfortune

The actor has decided to recount his near-death experience in a highly recommended and hilarious 68-minute monologue entitled ‘What Had Happened Was...', which is now available on Netflix.

Operate or die

His sister who took him to Piedmont Hospital, where a doctor told her Foxx had a "brain bleed that led to a stroke" and that "If I don't go into his head, we're gonna lose him."

Jamie Foxx is a sensational comedian

The show brings good news to his fans. Firstly, it can be certified that the actor is recovered, looking good and able to return to work; but also, many people discover Jamie Foxx's more frolic side, that of a comedian.

No light at the end of the tunnel

"I say this all the time, I saw the tunnel, I didn't see the light," Foxx says. "It was hot in that tunnel... I looked at the end of the tunnel and I thought I saw the devil saying come on... or was that Puffy?" Yes, the humour of the comedic Jamie Foxx is as dark as it is commendable.

Golden Globe nominee

His monologue was such a success that his story has earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Stand-Up Comedy Performance on Television.

Alternating good and not so good times

The monologue combines hilarious moments with other more personal and up-close ones. Sometimes, the actor can't help but get emotional, just like the moment he remembers how hard the recovery was.

He stayed quiet for a reason

"I went to hell and back," he explained in an emotional Instagram video after being released from hospital. But Foxx, his family and associates were quiet on the details because he "didn't want his fans to see him like that."

Confirmed: not blind

He also took the opportunity to lash out at those journalists and people who speculated about his health, claiming that he was 'blind and immobile' because of the Covid vaccine. In the Netflix special, he thanked those dearest to him and also playfully thanked those on the internet who created lies about him.

A proud daughter

Corinne Foxx, the actor's daughter, wanted to leave a message to her father on Instagram, after taking care of him during these months. ‘I couldn't be more proud of you. You created light out of darkness. You turned tragedy into comedy. You shared your truth, your story in the most beautiful and honest way.’

The support of a friend

Another illustrious welcome came from his friend Will Smith. ‘I am glad to see you back doing what you LOVE,’ referring to his monologue. All good news this Christmas for the Foxx family and their fans.
