Jennifer Aniston's most honest interview: her true feelings about love and 'Friends'
Jennifer Aniston took a legendary trip to Las Vegas nearly three decades ago, just before she landed her breakthrough role in Hollywood. Aniston joined the cast of 'Friends' in 1994 when she was 25 years old and soon became a household name.
Over the years, everyone's favorite "friend" has been a hot topic in gossip magazines and there have been plenty of rumors about her too. In a much-discussed interview in 2021 with the Hollywood Reporter, Aniston discussed the 'Friends' reunion, "missing out" on motherhood, the craziness of constantly being discussed in the tabloids, and finally learning to love herself in her fifties.
Aniston met with the journalist from The Hollywood Reporter in her home in Beverly Hills and gave the interview from what was once her ex Justin Theroux's man cave.
Jennifer has since turned the dark space into her own personal "sanctuary" per The Hollywood Reporter and even has a doormat that says "Welcome to the Babe Cave."
Turning her ex's office into a space for her and owning her singledom is symptomatic of where Aniston is now.
Jen was 52 at the time of the interview and the actress spoke about enjoying her life and loving herself despite not fulfilling all the stereotypes of what a successful woman should do in life: settle down and become a mother.
In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aniston spoke about how men don't face the same judgment as women.
The actress said, "Which is such a double standard: Men can be married as many times as they want to, they can marry [younger] women in their 20s or 30s. Women aren’t allowed to do that."
Jennifer has strong feelings about all the attention paid to her private life but told the interviewer that she no longer takes the rumors from the tabloids to heart.
"I used to take it all very personally — the pregnancy rumors and the whole “Oh, she chose career over kids” assumption."
The actress has been in the tabloids countless times over the years with wild speculations about the state of her uterus splashing the covers.
Regarding this issue, Aniston said, "It’s like, “You have no clue what’s going with me personally, medically, why I can’t … can I have kids?” They don’t know anything, and it was really hurtful and just nasty."
'The Morning Show' star also talked about how the industry has changed and the influence of TikTok and Instagram.
Aniston said, "...I don’t know what the industry is anymore. It’s not the same industry that it used to be. It’s not that glamorous anymore. It’s slowly becoming about TikTok and Instagram followers."
Aniston went on to critique the film industry, saying, "It’s like, we’re hiring now based on followers, not talent? Oh, dear. And I’m losing touch. I’m not great at going, “I’m going to stay relevant and join TikTok.”
Perhaps the actress isn't a fan of social media because when she finally decided to join Instagram...she broke it!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, when Aniston joined the social media site two years ago, fans were so excited, Instagram crashed. She was the fastest person ever to reach one million followers.
In the interview, Aniston also spoke about how director Ben Winston finally persuaded the actress and fellow 'Friends' cast members to do the reunion.
"We were all like, “I don’t know if we were just seduced by his talent or his charm or a combination of all of it.”
Even though Aniston and her castmates from 'Friends' had a great time working together during their years on the show and enjoyed getting together once again, the reunion was much more difficult than the actress expected. She told The Hollywood Reporter, "Time travel is hard."
Jennifer elaborated on why the 'Friends' reunion was so difficult: “Hi, past, remember me? Remember how that sucked?"
Aniston continued, "You thought everything was in front of you and life was going to be just gorgeous, and then you went through maybe the hardest time in your life?”
Remembering her time as Rachel Green all these years later while being filmed was a bit much for the actress.
Aniston said, "It was all very jarring and, of course, you’ve got cameras everywhere and I’m already a little emotionally accessible, I guess you could say, so I had to walk out at certain points. I don’t know how they cut around it."
The actress also told The Hollywood Reporter that unlike her 'Friends' co-star Matthew Perry she doesn't plan on writing a memoir any time soon.
"I don’t have the memories done yet — they’re still coming. But that doesn’t appeal to me, really. I also feel like, “Who cares?”"
However, Aniston does plan to follow in her late father's footsteps and continue to perform into old age. Her father John Aniston, continued to work as an actor until he passed away at age 89.
Jennifer said, "... I’m just getting started. I’ve only recently started to be like, “Oh, I got this.” I think I needed to get over those hurdles of self-doubt and own who I am and where I am and just how long I’ve f****** been here."
