KARA's Gyuri battling hate comments and injuries in KARA's comeback
KARA has returned with a new release on 24 July, marking it their first release in two years. However, despite the anticipation for their comeback, Gyuri of KARA is facing some hate for sustaining a face injury, which has been speculated to be more than just a simple face injury.
Park Gyu-ri, also known as Gyuri, is a member of the K-pop girl group KARA. She is also known as KARA’s leader.
In her early life, Gyuri had already been part of the Korean entertainment scene as a child star. KBIzoom reports that she had been a child actress in the 1994 film, ‘Downpour’, and went on to continue acting in several other works.

However, Gyuri would transition from acting to K-pop in 2007, when she debuted with KARA in their original lineup as a quartet. She remains one of the original members in the lineup even as the group transitioned later on in 2008, 2014, and 2022.
As a member of KARA, Gyuri has been part of the classic hits the group has produced. This includes ‘Honey’, ‘Mister’, ‘Lupin’, and many other songs.

KARA’s comeback in July 2024 is quite the big deal as not only does this make the group’s latest release after two years, but also because their latest songs in their album ‘I Do I Do’ features the voice of their late member Goo Hara, reports Channel News Asia!

However, Gyuri had suffered an injury to her face just weeks before KARA’s official comeback date. Soompi reports that the injury was a rather severe one, that Gyuri had fractured her cheekbone and orbital bone. The cause of the injury was not revealed.

Despite KARA's return in July, which will bring new activities for the group in promoting their latest release, the same Soompi source notes that Gyuri will be out of group promotions for a month due to surgery to treat her injuries.

However, some netizens were skeptical as to the true cause of her hiatus being a facial injury. Allkpop reports that some netizens have taken to accusing Gyuri of actually undergoing plastic surgery rather than surgery to treat her injuries, and have also speculated that the star’s injuries were a result of domestic violence.

In response to the negative comments on Gyuri’s reputation, Allkpop reports that her management, Big Boss Entertainment, has threatened legal action towards netizens who have left such speculative comments online. This marks KARA’s and Gyuri’s latest scandal in light of the girl group’s comeback.
