Daniel Radcliffe: see how he's changed since Harry Potter

Unfortunately for Daniel Radcliffe, when we think of the actor, we immediately think about cute little Harry Potter from the first film in the saga. And he's come so far by now!

Daniel Radcliffe has managed to not fall into the traps of childhood fame and carved out a good name and career for himself. He owns a home in the West Village of Manhattan and has been in a relationship with the actress Erin Darke since 2012.

The long-time couple became parents in April 2023. Radcliffe told Newsweek: "I wouldn't want fame for my kid. Film sets are wonderful places. A lot of the time it can be wonderful for kids, but it's really the fame side of it that should be avoided at all costs."

Daniel Radcliffe is constantly busy with one project or another. Whether it's Off-Broadway or playing the villain in 'The Lost City' with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum (2022), he's always doing something. Let's take a look at how Radcliffe has changed over the years through his films.

When Daniel Radcliffe was just five years old, he told his parents he wanted to be an actor when he grew up. Not long after, he got his chance in the role of young David Copperfield in the BBC's adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel in a two-part series that was aired in 1999.

We've seen Daniel Radcliffe grow up through his Harry Potter performances, but there's more to the actor. With 'The Tailor of Panama,' a young Daniel Radcliffe - just over 10 years old - stepped into the film world for the first time. He played Mark, the eldest son of the (fictional) marriage of Geoffrey Rush and Jamie Lee Curtis.

'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' was the start of an immense project for Daniel Radcliffe. It marks a before and after in his career. The 2001 release would be the first of eight in the successful saga based on the books by J. K. Rowling.

'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' - Already a mass idol, young Daniel Radcliffe was once again wearing his wizard's cloak in the second installment of 'Harry Potter.' This time, his hair was longer and we see him in the middle of adolescence.

'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'- Two years later, Radcliffle appeared in the third installment of his successful saga. The young Harry Potter was 15 years old and his physique was beginning to change by leaps and bounds.

'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' - In these years it was all Harry Potter for Daniel. He had become a Hollywood star by then and counte  millions of fans.

'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' show the British actor with shorter hair, a more manly face and an (almost) manly complexion. The actor had turned 18.

'December Boys' - Shortly before the release of the last three installments of 'Harry Potter', Daniel Radcliffe diversified his production a bit with this Australian film directed by Rod Hardy. Playing a young orphan, Radcliffe had a different hairstyle but the same angel face.

'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' - Daniel Radcliffe's return to the Harry Potter universe came in 2009. In his early twenties, the actor wore his hair shorter but he continued with the unmistakable round glasses.

Daniel Radcliffe's last performance as Harry Potter showed an actor of 22 years who looked much more mature and even appeared on scene with a three-day (or longer) beard. Young Harry was now a grown man.

Daniel Radcliffe said goodbye to Harry Potter with 'The Woman in Black.' He played Arthur Kipps, a 19th century British notary widower. A mature actor, he barely reminded us of the spectacled wizard anymore.

'Kill Your Darlings' shows Daniel Radcliffe as a young man in 1940s' New York. The longer, curlier hair and thick glasses removed the actor even further from his legendary Harry Potter character.

'What if' is a romantic comedy set in the 2000s, where Daniel Radcliffe could finally try on a more contemporary look.

The actor's tough, mature version in this fantasy and mystery film even wears horns. Curiously, the main role in this film was meant for Shia LaBeouf but, eventually, they chose Daniel Radcliffe instead.

Radcliffe goes back in time with a new film adaptation of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel 'Frankenstein.' He plays Igor, Dr. Frankenstein's faithful companion, and is dressed in the typical early nineteenth-century style with beautiful long hair.

As 'Swiss Army Man,' we see Daniel Radcliffe in what is possibly one of his most unclassifiable roles. He experimented in the world of acting by getting into the skin of a flatulent young corpse floating aimlessly. Physically, Radcliffe was (almost) unrecognisable.

The actor showed how well his beard suits him in the sequel to the hit 'Now You See Me' . And yes, he went back to doing magic.

Objective of this film: to forget Harry Potter altogether. Mission: accomplished. Radcliffe plays a young FBI agent who infiltrates a group of white supremacists. The shaved hair makes for a tougher look to go with one of the actor's most interesting roles.

Daniel Radcliffe was about to turn 30 when he appeared like this on the big screen. 'Jungle' is an Australian film based on a real-life event in 1981, when Israeli adventurer Yossi Ghinsberg had to survive in the middle of the Amazon rainforest.

'Guns Akimbo' is a crazy movie within Radcliffe's filmography. He clearly tries not to be typecast in Hollywood. We see a mature actor with a thick beard on his thirty-year-old face.

Yes, it's true: the one in the picture is 'Harry Potter.' Or in other words, Daniel Radcliffe. He plays a white South African who is imprisoned for working on behalf of the ANC, the activist and political collective that fought against apartheid. A serious historical drama that shows how far the young wizard has come.

November 2021 marked the 20th anniversary of the first film in the 'Harry Potter' saga. To celebrate, the film's cast joined for a reunion at the end of that year.

The reunion was filmed, and the television special 'Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts' appeared on HBO on January 1st, 2022. It was not only a trip down Memory Lane for many fans, but also an opportunity to see how much the former wizards had changed.

Daniel's most recent on-screen project was 'The Lost City' with Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Patti Harrison, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Even Brad Pitt had a small role in the film, but among its biggest stars was Radcliffe as the villain.
