Margot Robbie shines and surprises

The much anticipated day had finally arrived. The stars of the much-hyped ‘Barbie’ film sashayed down the hot pink carpet to the film premier on a sunny July day in Los Angeles. The film's star, Margot Robbie, shone and surprised by opting for a black, not pink, gown.

Solo in the Spotlight

But her stunning black sequin Schiaparelli dress did not stray from the Mattel toy of the hour. Indeed, the look was an obvious nod to the 1960 Solo in the Spotlight doll.

Barbie and Ken

But Ryan Gosling, who features as Barbie’s boy toy Ken, did embrace pink for the premiere. While he may not be an obvious Ken, Variety’s social media editor who saw the premiere said it was a role he was “clearly born to play.” Can't wait to see the movie? It hits general theaters July 21.

Other great looks for the pink carpet

After months of ‘Barbie’ hype and with its large ensemble cast, it’s not a surprise that the film premiere attracted a list of the hottest Hollywood stars excited to don their coolest looks. Take singer Dua Lipa, whose incredibly transparent dress exposed more than we can show here!

Simu Liu

Another Ken in the film, actor Simu Liu strutted his stuff in a baby blue harnessed outfit and his partner Allison Hsu.

America Ferrera

The ‘Ugly Betty’ star showed up pretty in pink with pink pearls, finger nails and a satiny two-piece ensemble. She’s another cast member of the upcoming ‘Barbie’ flick.

Billie Eilish

Here’s singer Billie Eilish in a pink ensemble that, as the New York Times style suggestion suggests, fuses Barbie with Mr. Potato Head in a surprise Matell mashup.

Kate McKinnon

The SNL star who is playing the Barbie everyone destroyed as a kid — Gymnast Barbie — rocked the pink carpet in a hot pink tailored pantsuit.

Nicki Minaj

The hip-hop artist who just teamed up with Ice Spice and Aqua to release a remix of ‘Barbie World’ also turned it out on the pink carpet. As her song goes: “I’m a doll but I still wanna party.”

Issa Rae

Although the actress portraying President Barbie recently confessed to the Guardian that she “hates the color pink,” she continued “taking one for the team” in this hot pink ensemble.

Kingsley Ben-Adir and Michael Cera

British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir was one of the few cast members who managed to buck the all-pink trend. Speaking to Variety on how he and the other Ken dolls appear in the movie, he said: “We all looked like absolute losers in a funny way.” Here, he’s next to Michael Cera, also in the film, who has his pink game on point.

Xolo Maridueña

But actor Xolo Maridueña was another poster boy for the idea that pink isn’t just for girls.

Karol G

Colombian singer even brought the pink to her hairdo to top off this very Y2K-inspired psychedelic Barbie mashup.

Trixie Mattel

Way before Barbie got this new pop culture spotlight, drag queen Trixie Mattel was already repping for the toy brand as a over-the-top doll. Of course, she slayed on the pink carpet alongside film producer David Silver.

Shay Mitchell

‘Pretty Little Liars’ actress Shay Mitchell strayed from the pink, but donned a very Barbie-inspired black and white tuxedo dress, featuring an purse that would fit the real-sized Barbie.

Ava Max

The singer who released the related track ‘Not Your Barbie Girl’ was looking gorgeous and doll inspired on the pink carpet with rhinestone shades and matching leather gloves.

Greta Gerwig

Although behind the camera, the ‘Barbie’ director and co-writer also had her moment in the hot pink spotlight. And the premiere’s pink carpet definitely matched the vibe she was going for. “There was this sense of wanting to make something anarchic and wild and completely bananas,” Gerwig told the Guardian of the film,“because it felt, like, ‘Well, if we ever do get to go back to cinemas again, let’s do something totally unhinged.’”
