In a statement, the police said Borg was arrested at 11:12 p.m. local time and was accused of having relations with a person who "is said to have been unable to resist the act." He is also charged with driving without a valid license, according to the newspaper El Español.
This is Marius' second arrest in three months. He was already accused of violating section 291 of Norway's criminal code. The charges have now been expanded by the addition of the recent arrest. "What police can say about the r a p e is that it concerns a s e * u a l act without intercourse," police said, The Guardian reported.
The prosecutor in charge of the case, Andreas Kruszewski, says that it has not yet been decided whether Marius will have to appear before the judge. The investigation is still ongoing, El Español reported. At the moment, Marius remains in custody at the central police station in Oslo.
The lawyer for the alleged victim, Hege Salomon, has clarified that the complaint was not filed by her client, but that the police opened the investigation after discovering evidence of the facts. Salomon said the victim is "having a hard time" after the incident.
Following his first arrest in August, Marius Borg publicly acknowledged his addiction problems and his intention to undergo treatment. "I have struggled with substance abuse for a long time, something I have been in treatment for in the past. I will now resume this treatment and take it very seriously," he said at the time.
According to the Norwegian newspaper 'Se og Hør', Marius' stepfather, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, accompanied him to a rehabilitation center in London in early November. According to the Norwegian journalists, the pair boarded a plane from Oslo to London on 7 November.
For his part, Prince Haakon has not spoken about the matter in depth. He did mention that this is a very difficult situation for the entire family. Apart from this comment, he preferred not to speak about the case due to the ongoing investigation.
Marius, the future king's stepson, does not have an official role within the Royal House. His younger half-siblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, do have official royal duties. Throughout his life, Marius has been involved in several media scandals.
Meanwhile, Marius' mother, Princess Mette-Marit, has been battling pulmonary fibrosis since 2018. In her last public appearance, she asked for 'understanding' and requested privacy for her family at this delicate time, according to El Español.
Marius' arrest has revived media interest in his troubled life, including the aforementioned incident in August. At that time, he was accused of causing damage to his then-partner's home and suspected of domestic abuse. According to The Guardian, authorities have not yet decided what will happen next in this case.
