Music fans may have already met this musician, also known as Coco Sumner, but now the Netflix audience can also admire the artistic talents of Sting's offspring! Here's all you need to know about actor and musician Eliot Sumner.

Eliot Paulina Sumner

The young artist was born in Pisa, Italy, on July 30, 1990, under the name of Eliot Paulina Sumner. They have famous parents: actress and producer Trudie Styler and singer Gordon Sumner, aka Sting.

An artistic family

Eliot has three siblings (Jake, Giacomo, and Mickey), a half-brother (Joe), and a half-sister (Fuchsia Kate). All siblings work in the arts in one way or another.

Siblings

Mickey Sumner, born in 1984, is an actress known for her roles in films like 'Frances Ha' (image) and 'Battle of the Sexes.' Jake (1985), Fuchsia (1982), and Giacomo (1995) have all pursued careers in acting and/or modeling.

Joe Sumner

Finally, Joe is a singer-songwriter and bassist for the rock band Fiction Plane. You may remember his voice, strikingly similar to his dad's, from the song 'Two Sisters'.

Eliot's education

Known under the name of Coco, Eliot (next to Sting in the photo) attended the Fine Arts College in Hampstead, London. As The Independent reports, they blended classical education with artistic exploration in school.

Interest in music

From a young age, Eliot was interested in music. "I got my first guitar for my 4th or 5th birthday," they said in an interview with The Cut.

I Blame Coco

At age 14, Eliot founded the band 'I Blame Coco', referring to the nickname they got from their family. Once the band became successful, Eliot dropped the name Coco to refer to themselves and stuck with Eliot.

DJ under a different name

Eliot's curious, and artistic nature also led them to experiment as a DJ. They played in different European clubs under the name Vaal. According to The Cut in 2016, they basically "sabotaged" their career by touring as an "anonymous DJ". But it worked - clubs liked Vaal's mixes.

Gender identity

Eliot has been open about their gender identity. In 2015, they publicly as non-binary in an interview with the Evening Standard. Since then, they have spoken out about their experiences and challenges navigating gender in the public eye. In addition, they are using their platform to raise awareness and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility.

"I don't believe in any specifications"

"I think forever I was trying to figure out maybe... what I am," they told the Evening Standard magazine. "But I don't think anyone should feel pressured to have any kind of label or tag on them. We're all human beings."

Coming out was easy

In the same interview with the Evening Standard magazine, Eliot explained that it was fairly easy to 'come out of the closet' as a non-binary person. "No one had ever asked... So I didn't need to. I've never come out to anyone. My friends always knew and I always knew".

Eliot's love life

Eliot dated the Austrian model Lucie Von Alten for around two years before getting involved with British high society model Frankie Herbert in 2021. However, when they saw a photo of Frankie kissing someone else at the 2023 London Pride Parade, Eliot reportedly broke things off, per the Daily Mail.

Eliot Sumner and CK Everyone

In 2020, Eliot became the representative of Calvin Klein's new fragrance 'Everyone'. It's a curious partnership, because Eliot actually can't smell the fragrance!

No sense of smell

"I have to be honest with you. "I don't actually have a sense of smell," Eliot told Vanity Fair at the time. They lost it due to a brain injury.

In the shadow of their famous parents

Being the child of famous people is not easy. As Eliot explained to People magazine, "I think I'll always be in the shadow of my parents. But that's OK. Everyone has a challenge." They continued: "If I'm proud of the music I am making, that's all I can ask for. If I put it out into the world, it's not up to me any more."

Their start in acting

Always exploring new horizons, Eliot began to experiment with acting. As a child they had already appeared in the film 'Me Without You' (2001), but in 2019, they began to act in earnest with 'The Gentleman,' followed by 'No Time to Die' in 2021.

Ripley

In 2024, Eliot had a remarkable role in the well-received Netflix series 'Ripley' with Andrew Scott in the leading role. They played Freddie Miles, a character who catches the deceitful Ripley in his lies. It may have been hard to recognize the young star, as they wore short hair for the role, but it was definitely, undeniably Eliot Sumner!
