Millie Bobby Brown: a young actress' adventure in photos

She's only 17 years old and already a rising star in Hollywood. Millie Bobby Brown, actress and model, became known for her role in 'Stranger Things'. Now, her movie 'Enola Holmes' is coming out, in which the young talent not only acted but also produced.

Millie was born on February 19, 2004 on the Spanish island of Marbella. She's not Spanish though, but British. As the fourth daughter of Kelly and Robert Brown, she moved with them to Bournemouth, UK when she was a little girl.

Even though she is mostly in Hollywood, Millie Bobby Brown remains a real English girl. In an interview with Liverpoolfc.com she said that she was a loyal member of the club: "When I was younger, my father bought me a Liverpool kit. My brother's a big fan. I had no choice!"

Millie confessed in Variety that she was born with one near-deaf ear. Her ability to perceive sounds through one of her ears is reduced. She tried for a few years to regain her full hearing, but then she lost it again in that one ear.

At a young age, Millie moved with her parents from the UK to Florida, USA. There she started practicing her acting skills. At age 9, she played Alice in ABC's 'Once Upon a Time' spin-off: 'Once Upon a Time in Wonderland' (2013).

In 2014, Millie participated in the BBC series 'The Intruders'. She played the protagonist Madison O'Donnell, a 9-year-old girl whose body was invaded by the spirit of a serial killer.

In the following years, there were small roles, including guest appearances in series such as 'Navy: Criminal Investigation' ('NCIS'), 'Modern Family,' and 'Grey's Anatomy'. Millie became an all-round actress: from crime to sitcoms and hospital dramas.

In 2016, a role came along that would change Millie's life: protagonist Eleven in the Netflix production 'Stranger Things'. She plays a character with supernatural powers who runs away from a life of laboratory experiments to be a normal child. In this adventure, she finds a group of friends who will never leave her side. The role is quite dark at first and Millie makes an impression as a tormented, unusual person.

In 2017, the cast of 'Stranger Things' won the SAG Award for best cast in a series. In the same year, Millie was nominated for other awards such as the SAG for best actress in a drama series and the Emmy for best actress in a drama series. She was only 13 years old at that time.

The cast of 'Stranger Things' has formed a great bond of friendship. This is something you see on social media, where they share many moments together in their free time, including their birthdays.

In an interview on the Jimmy Fallon Show, the actress rapped a full verse of Nicky Minaj and Kanye West's song 'Monster'. A year later, when she returned to the show, she once again delighted the audience by rapping about 'Stranger Things'.

Thanks to the famous Netflix series, Millie has developed a great friendship with her set mate Winona Ryder. According to various media, Winona gave her an Irish ring for her birthday that represents loyalty, friendship and love.

With so much filming on the agenda, Millie has barely had time to go to school. That's why she is homeschooled. She also uses martial arts and boxing to relieve the stress of her fast-paced life. On Vulture she says: "I love it. In fact, I have a punching bag in my garden."

When she was 15, Millie Bobby Brown launched a skin care line in Florence. It is vegan and made without animal testing. In her promotional video Millie says: "Every teenager deserves to have a good start with their skin."

One time, Millie responded on Instagram when people told her to "act her age." It was a so-called post-and-delete, but media like TeenVogue took note and we can still read it there. Millie said: "I know everyone on my last pic wants me to 'act my age' but quite frankly its my instagram and if I choose to post that picture and you don’t like it… scroll past it."

In 2018, Millie made a first step into cinema. She signed a deal with the Lionsgate company to play Enola Holmes in the film of the same name. The movie, which came out in 2020, was an adaptation of the novel by Nancy Springer. Interestingly, Millie was also a producer for the film. A second part is in production for a release in 2022.

Millie is an activist who's joined organizations that work to improve the quality of life for children and to help victims of child cancer. For example, she is UNICEF's youngest ambassador, and she also promoted the UEFA campaign 'Together #WePlayStrong'. The soccer organization set up this campaign to promote equality in football.

TIME magazine has added Millie Bobby Brown to its list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Of the entire list, Millie is the youngest.

In July 2019, the third seasson of 'Stranger Things' series came out. It was a big succes: In the first four days after its release, 40.7 milllion households across the world had already started watching it. In the same year, Millie won another award: favorite TV actress at the Teen Choice Awards.

With 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' (2019) Millie made another big step on the silver screen. She played Madison Russel. Director and screenwriter Michael Dougherty revealed in an interview with Hollywood Life that "the role was written especially for her." In 2021, Millie Bobby Brown returned in 'Godzilla vs. Kong'.
