Georgina Cooper, 90s model, confirmed dead

On Thursday 8th November, Georgina Cooper was confirmed dead by her friends via Instagram. The model was famous in the 90s for the gap in her teeth and being very close to Kate Moss.

On holiday at the time

The model was in the Greek island Kos when her condition worsened and she was flown to a hospital in Crete. She “tragically died [in Greece] a fortnight ago,” as her agent, Dean Goodman, told The Daily Mail.

Suffering from long COVID

Ms Cooper’s cause of death was a blood-brain haemorrhage as the former mentioned media reports, although her agent has not confirmed this. The haemorrhage was a result of long COVID and the model had suffered for a long time with health issues.

Cooper spent five days fighting for her life

Her final days were spent in the ICU; and after five days in a worsened condition, the British model passed away. On the 28th October, her body was flown back to the UK.

In a place she loved

The former model (who had retired from the business to look after her son, Sonny) had a special affinity to Greece. According to her agent: “She loved Greece and told me that she was going back with her new husband.”

With her life ahead of her

Georgina Cooper was 46 years old and had just got married. As The Independent tells us, she had married her partner, Nigel, just this past Summer.

Cooper got her life in the place she wanted it

The pair got married in Kent, England in an intimate ceremony and had their reception in a local pub. At that point, she had given up modelling and was working in the hospitality industry, in a chain of pubs. she was already suffering from health issues.

Despite health problems, she had a planned future

"Georgina had been unwell during Covid and had developed some health problems and had been in and out of hospital,” agent Dean Goodman said, as quoted by People. “But she had plans for the future. She had just married and was looking forward to her life. Everybody is devastated. She was a genuine superstar.”

The original gap-toothed girl

The superstar was a popular name in the 1990s. Or perhaps many may remember her as ‘the original gap-toothed girl’. Her face was recognised in the media and well-known in the modelling world, having been on the cover of the face and US Vogue.

Modelling for big names

As Women’s Wear Daily comments, Georgina Cooper was a regular on the runways where she represented brands like Helmut Lang, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein and Hussein Chalayan. In 1998 she walked for Gucci (pictured).

A personality to match

Her success was not only her looks and the gap in the teeth - it was also her personality, as is clear from the tributes pouring out from the fashion world. Many who knew her describe her as having an infectious personally, didn’t take herself too seriously and had a genuine warmth about her.

Remembered personally and professionally

“Georgina was a ray of light, a very popular model who was riotous fun, always laughing and being naughty in all the best ways. We all wanted to hang out with George backstage. Her achievements in the industry were huge,” her friend, Jada Parfitt, told MailOnline.
