Bobbie Jean Carter's cause of death has been confirmed
Nick and Aaron Carter's sister Bobbie Jean's cause of death has been released. According to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner, she died from "intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine." The death was ruled as an accidental overdose.
The family of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and the late Disney star Aaron Carter received another blow when, right before Christmas 2023, Nick's sister Bobbie Jean Carter died at the young age of 41.
According to sources close to the family, Bobbie Jean died from acardiac arrest, but officially, the cause was unclear. She was found in the bathroom of her home, just as Aaron had been a year earlier. Now, two months later, the cause of death has been connected to excessive use of illegal substances.
Bobbie Jean did not have an easy life in past years. She was said to have been struggling with substance abuse. Her brother Aaron, to her left in this photo, died in November 2022 of an accidental overdose. She had worked closely with him as a wardrobe stylist and makeup artist during his early tours, Billboard recalls.
The decay of Bobby Jean Carter, apparently caused by drug abuse, became clear when she was arrested in June 2023 for shoplifting at a Hobby Lobby store in Brookfield, Florida. The local Sheriff's Office provided this booking photo of Bobbie Jean Carter.
According to the arrest report, obtained by TMZ, Bobbie Jean was caught in Hernando County after she allegedly stole six items from the 'Hobby Lobby' store valued at just over $55.
After store employees alerted police, they took 41-year-old Bobbie Jean to an office. There, she allegedly grabbed her bag in a panic and pulled out a blue container, quickly dropping it under a desk in the office.

After recovering the container, police found that it had 1.3 grams of white powder and 0.8 grams of purple powder inside. A test confirmed that the purple powder was fentanyl.
While being taken to jail, Bobbie Jean allegedly threatened to harm herself. "'I'm just going to have to k. . . myself," was the threat Nick's sister released. She was immediately put on a special watch.
A striking aspect of this case, just a few months before her death, was that Nick Carter's sister requested a public defender. It's a striking need for a member of such a famous (and presumably, wealthy) family.
Bobbie Jean's legal problems and subsequent death - even though it is officially ruled a cardiac arrest - are in line with what other members of the Carter family have gone through. Several siblings suffered from drug abuse problems.
Not only did former child star Aaron Carter die under tragic circumstances in 2022, but the family had already lost another sister, Leslie, in 2012. At age 25, Leslie died from an overdose.
For the Carters' mother, it must also be horrifying to lose a third child within little more than a decade. In a statement for TMZ, Jane Carter said that she was "in shock from learning of the sudden death of my daughter, Bobbie Jean." She added that she would "need time to process the terrible reality of this happening for the third time."
Jane Carter continued: "I would ask the sympathetic to say a prayer for my precious eight-year-old granddaughter Bella, who previously lost her father and is now also left without her mother."
In this photo, we see the first of the Carter siblings who would pass away at a young age: Leslie, here posing with her younger brother Aaron in 2001. She died in 2012.
Ten years later, little Aaron had grown up and was fighting his own demons. He was found in the bathtub of his home in November 2022, where he had drowned after accidentally taking too many different substances at once, the autopsy revealed.
While Jane Carter was processing the loss of her second child, she got into trouble herself in May 2023. The Carter family matriarch was arrested for assault after an altercation with her husband.

And then there is Nick Carter, the Backstreet Boy and most successful of the famous family. He, too, has had some legal problems, facing an assault lawsuit by former Dream singer Melissa Schuman. Carter has denied everything, speaks of a conspiracy against him, and is currently suing Schuman for defamation.
