Prince Harry: the forgotten hero? A look at the Duke of Sussex's military career
Certain media outlets are really focusing on Harry and Megan - from their royal exit to their tell-all media marketing tour - and quickly forgetting the service Harry gave to his country. Some even claimed him to be a traitor. But what should be remembered about the ‘Spare’ Prince?
Some seem to have erased from their minds that Harry not only served 10 years in the army but he also did 2 tours in Afghanistan. Let’s take a look at the military career of Harry.
After completing a duration of work experience, Prince Harry entered The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in May 2005 to begin his official training as an Officer Cadet.
After successfully completing the course, Prince Harry was commissioned as an Army officer in April 2006. The Queen, beside The Duke of Edinburgh, took the salute at the Sovereign's Parade at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Prince Harry received promotions in all his three services. In June 2018, he became a major in the British Army, a lieutenant commander in the Royal Navy, and a squadron leader in the Royal Air Force.
Prince Harry undertook two tours of Afghanistan — as a Forward Air Controller from 2007 to 2008 and as an Apache Pilot from 2012 to 2013.
In February 2008 it was confirmed by The Ministry of Defence that Prince Harry had been serving with the British Army in Helmand, Afghanistan.
"Prince Harry is very proud to serve his country on operations alongside his fellow soldiers and to do the job he has been trained for,” the royal House observed.
During his time in the unit, he qualified as an Apache Aircraft Commander and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2011.
General Sir Nicholas Carter, the then-Chief of the General Staff, said that Prince Harry had "achieved much in his 10 years as a soldier”. Continuing the praise with "He has been at the forefront throughout his service.”
In 2021, Prince Harry had returned the following military appointments to the Queen on his exit from the British Institution:
Captain General Royal Marines
Honorary Air Commandant, RAF Honington
Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command
But his service to the military did not stop there. The Prince founded the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans
He described the men and women of the Armed Forces as his personal "role models" during an Invictus Games event in Dusseldorf.
Mike Bourgeois, who served as a member of Canada's archery team at the 2020 Invictus Games in The Netherlands, told PEOPLE how Harry is genuinely caring and focused on those recovering from their time in the military.
"He's genuinely interested in your journey. 'How's your coaching? What's the learning experience like? How are you being treated?'", Bourgeois added. "His focus is on understanding the athletes. It's about recognizing those embarking on a journey of recovery. That's what drives him."
At the event, he said he has "long believed that the service community deserves to be cheered as much as the most popular professional football teams”.
He continues to work in support of his fellow servicemen, promoting support for wounded men and women as they adapt to life post-injury.
