Queen Mary of invites lonely Danes to her new podcast
Queen Mary of Denmark has launched a new podcasting project called 'Lonely Youth'. Supported by her foundation, the podcast aims to tackle the growing problem of loneliness among young Danes, the Daily Mail reported.
The announcement was made via the Instagram accounts of the Danish royal family and the Mary Foundation, where the Queen shared a photo of herself listening to a podcast. In the photo, she appears relaxed on a sofa in a casual look and listening to the podcast on her mobile phone.

The podcast features three episodes that mix personal stories from young people with expert opinions. Sky News reported that Queen Mary's initiative aims to give voice to the experiences of those who feel lonely in an increasingly digital environment.
The Australian-born queen said loneliness is a problem affecting many young people in Denmark. "We know from the study Loneliness in Denmark" that 73% of young people between 16 and 19 feel lonely, regardless of whether they are alone or accompanied,' she reported in her publication.
The launch of the podcast is part of a series of campaigns by the Mary Foundation. According to Sky News, the foundation, created in 2007, is dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by social problems, such as exclusion and isolation. "17% of young people aged 16 to 24 feel deeply lonely. These are worrying figures that we must act on," she argued.
Mary is following in the footsteps of other royal figures who have ventured into podcasting. Like Meghan Markle, Queen Camilla, and Princess Eugenie, Mary has chosen this format to connect with a younger audience and discuss relevant topics.
The podcast follows other youth-focused initiatives by the Mary Foundation, including a recent campaign that included social media content and a short film about loneliness in collaboration with Mayday Film, according to Sky News.
The Queen hopes her podcast will be a tool to combat loneliness. She acknowledges that her foundation does not have much experience in this field, but is confident that the format will appeal to those in need of support. "Podcasting is not something we have much experience with at The Mary Foundation, but I hope you will listen to it and welcome it," the Queen said in her post.
The Mary Foundation was established with a national gift in honor of Mary and Frederik's marriage in 2004. According to the Daily Mail, the foundation received 1.1 million Danish kroner, collected in Denmark and Greenland, which enabled its official establishment.
Queen Mary has reiterated her commitment to social inclusion through her initiatives. With this podcast, she hopes to raise awareness in Danish society about an issue that remains 'invisible' to many.
