Scandal follows Prince Andrew: Chinese spy affair, shutdown investment firm
Prince Andrew's dangerous friendships are causing him headaches again. In December, an alleged Chinese spy was reported to have had an intense relationship with the Duke of York. Then, in January, the investment firm handling his private investments was shut down.
The Mirror reported on January 6 that the investment firm Urramoor Limited, in which a large part of Prince Andrew's private investments were tied up, had "applied to be struck off."
The firm, which initially started in 2013 as HRH Andrew Iverness, already got into trouble in 2022 as the Jeffrey Epstein scandal took the reputation of the prince down.
After the authorities established links between Prince Andrew and the convicted trafficker Epstein, they stripped the royal of his UK trade envoy, The Mirror recalls. As a result, the firm managing his investments had difficulty staying afloat.
Yet, by the end of 2023, the firm was saved by an anonymous donor. The Mirror cites business documents that state the company had £208,000 in debt and got a sudden influx of after £210,000 from a "mystery donor" in December 2023.
Thanks to that money, the company was solvent in 2024, but by the beginning of 2025, it had to shut down anyway. Whether there is a direct relation between this business problem and the Chinese spy scandal in December, is not clear.
According to The New York Times, the spy scandal became public when a British court denied entry to Prince Andrew's friend on December 12, accusing him of possible espionage. British authorities are investigating the case and looking for ramifications.
The Chinese spy, referred to by the court under the code name H6, is believed to be linked to the Chinese Communist Party at a high level. According to various media in the United Kingdom, his contacts go beyond the British Royal Family.
The Chinese spy H6, as reported by British media, is believed to have been in contact with senior UK officials in what could be an information network. According to The Guardian, Conservative MP Ian Duncan Smith believes that H6 is just "the tip of the iceberg" of a wider plot.
For now, according to court documents to which several media outlets have had access, the strongest link is the one that Prince Andrew had with this alleged Chinese spy.
The Guardian reports that court documents say the alleged spy was so close to Andrew that he was authorized to act on his behalf in an international financial venture with potential partners and investors in China.
We are talking about a Chinese spy who would have had very close access to the brother of Charles III.
According to the BBC, Prince Andrew claims that he always met with the person now identified as a Chinese spy "through official channels" and that he never provided him with sensitive information.
Prince Andrew added, through his office, that he had "cut off contact" with H6 and could not provide further information for reasons of national security.
Prince Andrew went from Falklands War hero to creepy old man for his relationship with abuser Jeffrey Epstein. They are pictured together in this image from 2000.
When Prince Andrew was sued by a woman for alleged abuse in the Epstein ring, the Royal Family decided to have his military titles withdrawn. Since then, the prince has been relegated to the background.
British authorities say they will get to the bottom of the matter, but for now, Prince Andrew's public image has been hit by a scandal once again. This is not the first time... Will it be the last?
