The incredible resemblance of the stars and their stunt doubles
Whether in action movies, comedies, or dramas, many scenes require strong physical preparation on the part of the actors. In many cases, the production resorts to stuntmen. The resemblance to the star they replace is incredible. See for example Anthony Molinari (left) and Mark Ruffalo, on the set of 'Now You See Me'.
In several scenes of the movie 'The Tourist' (2010), Johnny Depp needed the support of his stunt double, Theo Kypri.
In the photo, we can see a sequence in which Theo Kypri jumps from a building and lands on top of a fair at Mercato del Pesce in Venice. For this type of scene, the stuntmen have physical training practically every day during filming.
In 'Spider-Man: No Return Home' (2021), Tom Holland also needed some stunt doubles for the action scenes. And best of all, they all became good friends, as we can see in the Instagram post of one of them.
In fact, the stuntman Luke Scott, who also worked on 'Spider-Man: No Return Home', returned to replace Tom Holland in some scenes of the movie 'Uncharted' (2022).
Zooey Deschanel also ended up creating a friendship with her stunt double, Monica Braunger Hudsonm. The stunt double made scenes of the actress for more than ten years, during the seven seasons of the series 'New Girl.'
From the back, they look like the same person, but these are Cameron Diaz and her stunt double during the recording of the action scenes of 'Knight And Day' (2010).
To film 'Jurassic World: Dominion' (2022) Chris Pratt was not content with just one stuntman. He had three doubles for the action scenes: Clay Chamberlin, Alistair Whitton, and Chris Romrell.
In the photo, we see Will Smith next to his stunt double in the movie 'Collateral Beauty.'
To record this scene on horseback in the movie 'John Wick 3' (2019), Keanu Reeves needed a stunt double. From a distance, they look like twins!
Bobby Holland Hanton has been the official stunt double for Chris Hemsworth in the 'Thor' saga since 2011.
It's not strange that, after so many years, the two have built a friendship. In the photo, we see a post on Bobby's Instagram wishing his actor friend a happy birthday.
James Young is a famous stuntman in the Marvel Universe. His work often involves not only risky jumps but also fight scenes, such as those of the character Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) played by Sebastian Stan in the Marvel movies of the 'Captain America' saga.
Taylor Lautner also needed the help of a stuntman to record several scenes in the movie 'Tracers' (2015).
The figure of the stunt double on movie sets is as old as the industry itself. In the photo, we see the actor Richard Roundtree next to his stunt double during the filming of 'Shaft's Big Score!' in 1972.
Sometimes, stunt doubles don't have to do any action: they're just on set so the crew can arrange the light and set up the scene while the actors and actresses rest. In this case, they are called 'stand-ins'. In the photo, we see Deborah Kerr next to her stand-in, Marcella Gandini, on the set of the film 'Quo Vadis?' in 1950.
Marlon Brando also had a stand-in, named Carl Fiore, in the film 'On The Waterfront' from 1954.
Would you know which of these three is Natasha Lyonne, the protagonist of 'Russian Doll'?
Awkwafina is another actress who paid tribute to her stunt double in a post on her social media. In the photo, she appears next to Lee Chesley on the set of 'Jumanji 2' (2019).
The King of Rock needed a stunt double for the film 'Double Trouble' (1967). Amazing how they look like the same person!
Sometimes stuntmen also participate in publicity events after the films are released. In this case, we see Tom Hardy alongside his stunt double, Jacob Tomuri, at the press conference for the movie 'Mad Max: Fury Road' in 2015.
Here, Ellie Kemper stands alongside her stunt doubles from the 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' series... Once again, they could be twin sisters!
Steve McQueen and his stuntman Bud Ekins are discussing how the iconic jump over the barbed wire in 'The Great Escape' (1963) is going to be done.
And this is The Rock with his stunt double while filming 'Pain And Gain' in 2012. He was not credited, but according to IMDb, the name of this brave guy is Tanoai Reed.
Another stuntwoman who also appeared off-screen was Shanna Duggins. She replaced Jennifer Garner in some productions, and here, they present the award for Best Female Stuntman at the 3rd Annual Taurus World Stunt Awards in 2003.
Brie Larson received the Best Fight award for 'Captain Marvel' alongside her stunt doubles, Ingrid Kleinig and Joanna Bennett, at the 2019 MTV Movie and TV Awards.
