Where in the world was that celebrity born? Let's find out!

All of these celebrities were born in very different places than where they currently reside. Let's take a look at a list of where they actually came into this world and see if we knew it all along or if we are surprised by the information.

Orlando Bloom

With his long career in Hollywood, playing roles in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy and the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise, it could make you think he's American, but he was actually born in Canterbury, UK. In addition, his mother was born in Calcutta, India, and his father was a South African novelist.

Amy Adams

Twice winner of a Golden Globe for best actress, ('American Hustle' and  'Big Eyes') this actress was born in Vicenza, Italy, where her father, an American soldier, was stationed. It wasn't until she was 8 years old that she moved with her family to Colorado, in the USA.

Chris Hemsworth

Viggo Mortensen

Alongside Bloom, Viggo also triumphed in the trilogy of 'The Lord of the Rings,' however, Mortensen is actually American, born in New York to be specific, in 1958. He is of Danish descent on his father's side and Canadian by way of his maternal grandfather. He lived between Argentina and New York until he was 11 years old.

Natalie Portman

With Russian and Austrian ancestors, the Oscar-winning actress of 'Black Swan' was born in Jerusalem, Israel, registered under the name Neta-Lee Hershlag. She lived there until she was 3 years old when she moved with her family to the United States.

Joaquin Phoenix

The Oscar winning-actor for 'Joker' is the son of an American couple, but he was actually born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. His parents were missionaries of Los Niños de Dios and, in the middle of a journey through Latin America, he was born on the Caribbean island. His mother, Arlyn Sharon Dunetz, was also of Hungarian-Jewish descent.

Alice Vikander

The actress who replaced Angelina Jolie in the role of Lara Croft in 'Tomb Raider' and who would go on to win an Oscar for her performance in 'The Danish Girl', was born in 1988 in Gothenburg, Sweden. She lived there until 2004 so she was able to enter the Royal Swedish Ballet.

Jim Carrey

He's one of the great comedy actors in Hollywood, but he's not really from the United States, he's from Canada. He was the fourth child in a family from Newmarket, Ontario, where he lived until he was 8 years old. His parents then moved the family to Los Angeles, California and the rest is history.

Nicki Minaj

The well-known rapper was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, and Tobago, growing up in the south of Jamaica. When she was five years old, she went to live in Queens, New York, where she then told her mother, "What I want is to be an artist," and so she did.

Hugh Jackman

The mythical Wolverine from the 'X-Men' is from the 'land down under.'  He was born in Sydney, Australia in 1968 and is also a naturalized British citizen. His career has been very prolific in the United States, although he has also done a lot of work in the United Kingdom, both in film and theater.

Noomi Rapace

The actress who played Lisbeth Salander in the 'Millennium' trilogy is of the same nationality as those films: Swedish. She was born in Hudiksvall, Sweden in 1979, to a Swedish mother and a Spanish father, a flamenco singer born in Badajoz. Her success then took her to Hollywood, where she continues to succeed today.

Bruce Willis

Who could say that Bruce Willis is not American? But of course, he is, but actually not by birth! He came into the world in Idar-Oberstein, in 1955 West Germany. Bruce was the son of a German mother and an American father, living in  Germany until the family moved to Pens Grove, New Jersey, in the 70s.

Diane Kruger

The model and actress, known for her roles in 'Wicker Park,' 'Troy,' 'National Treasure,' and 'Inglourious Basterds,' was born in Algermissen, Germany, in Lower Saxony, in 1976. She stayed there until she was 13 years old, when she moved to London, where she was at the Royal Ballet; then to Paris, and finally to the United States.

Christian Bale

Bale was born in a small town in Haverfordwest, Wales, located in the county of Pembrokeshire. His father was a South African animal rights activist, and his mother was a British-born circus performer. In his childhood, he spent time in  Portugal, ending up in Bournemouth, England. He now lives in Los Angeles, having very much succeeded in Hollywood.

Lupita Nyong'o

The Oscar-winning actress from '12 Years a Slave' and 'Black Panther' has a very interesting background. She was born in 1983 in Mexico City, the daughter of Kenyan refugees, but grew up in Kenya, Africa, where her father eventually entered politics. She moved to the US to attend college and later started acting, where she had great success.

Colin Farrel

The son and nephew of ex-soccer player, Colin Farrell, was born and raised in the city of Castleknock, Ireland. He went through the Gaiety School of Dramatic Art in Dublin and from there to London, where he began an unstoppable career as an actor in British cinema. He finally made the leap to Hollywood with the film 'Tigerland,' by Joel Schumacher, and then he was off!

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie was born in Dalvy, in the Australian state of Queensland. There, she grew up on a farm, where she had to work to help support her family after her father abandoned them. Of course, from a very young age, she was interested in being an actress, and she succeeded, first when she went to Melbourne in search of opportunities and, later, in the United States.

Travis Fimmel

Fimmel was born in Lockington, a small town of about 800 inhabitants located in the state of Victoria, Australia. While you might never know, thanks to his incredible portrayal of his leading role of Ragnar Lothbrok in the series 'Viking,' he truly is Australian, not Scandinavian, we promise.

Rihanna

The singer, actress, designer, and pop music icon was born in 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados. And she is, in fact, an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of this small Caribbean country. Now she lives between Los Angeles and London, although her career has been developed mainly in the United States.

Keanu Reeves

The protagonist of 'The Matrix,' Keanu Reeves, has Canadian nationality, but he wasn't actually born in Canada, but in Beirut, Lebanon. His mother was English, and his father Chinese-Hawaiian with English and Portuguese ancestors. After being abandoned by his father, he traveled with his mother to Canada, Australia, and then New York, where he began his acting career.

Anya Taylor-Joy

The star of "The Queen's Gambit" was born in the United States, specifically in Miami, although she drifted around as a child. She lived in Argentina and London and also has dual British and American citizenship.

Ewan McGregor

Although many know him for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the "Star Wars" universe, Ewan McGregor really came to prominence in 1996 for the cult classic film "Trainspotting". What you may not know is that McGregor was not born in England, but in Scotland, in Perth to be exact, and in 1971.

Millie Bobby Brown

She is one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to her role as Eleven in 'Stranger Things'. And many would think she was probably American, with her impeccable accent, or maybe British, since she does have British nationality and in real life a British accent. But oops, no! She was born in Marbella, Spain, in the region of Malaga.

Justin Bieber

The controversial singer has filled stadiums with his concerts in the United States and has even made the occasional pop-in as an actor in some films. But as American as he may seem, the reality is that Justin Bieber was born in London. No, not that London, a small town in Ontario, Canada.

Nina Dobrev

Her last name could give her away, especially if we go by her real name: Nikolina Kamenova Dobreva. And although she presents herself as a Canadian actress, she was actually born in Sofia (Bulgaria). When she was 3 years old, her family moved to Ontario (Canada), where she grew up.

Idris Elbe

Known for 'Luther,' 'The Wire,' and 'The Office,' this actor isn't American, although his accent can fool you. His father was from Sierra Leone and his mother was from Ghana. And the actor? He was born and grew up in Hackney, East London, until 1992, when at 20 years old, he went to pursue an acting career in New York City.

Cate Blanchett

The Australian colony in Hollywood is quite tight, and Cate Blanchett is another excellent example. She was born in Melbourne in 1969 but ended up succeeding on American soil, becoming one of the few actresses to have won the four major awards in the world of cinema: Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Dominic Monaghan

The British actor, famous for his roles as Merry in 'The Lord of the Rings' and Charlie in 'Lost', was not actually born in the United Kingdom, but he does come from English parents. He was actually born in Berlin, Germany in 1976, moving to the UK when he was 12 years old.

Emma Watson

An icon for an entire generation for her role as Hermione in the 'Harry Potter' saga, which, by the way, only included actors from the United Kingdom in its cast. While she does have British nationality, Emma was technically born in Paris, France, not moving to the UK, to Oxfordshire, until she was 5 years old.

Eric Bana

Another Australian actor succeeding in Hollywood, there really is a tight circle. Eric Bana was born in Melbourne and comes of Croatian descent. His grandfather lived in Argentina, and his grandmother in Germany, moving to Australia to raise their family.  His first roles came with Australian filmmakers, and later he made the leap to American cinema.

Mila Kunis

The star of 'That '70s Show' goes by 'Mila' which is short for her full name, Milena Márkovna Kunis. The name is typical in her native area of Chernivtsi, Ukraine, where she was born in 1983, back when it still belonged to the USSR. In 1991, the Kunis family moved to Los Angeles, a perfect place to become an actress.

Michael Fassbender

Actor, producer, and race car driver, Michael Fassbender might seem American, for all his success in projects such as "Band of Brothers" or "X-Men". But the truth is that he was born in Heidelberg, Germany, the son of a Northern Irishman and a German woman.

Isla Fisher

The daughter of Scottish parents, she has Australian nationality, although her place of birth is far from there. She was born in the capital Muscat, Oman, in 1976. Her father was transferred there for work. After a time, they went to Australia, where she made her acting debut on television. Later she would study theater in Paris and act in plays in London before moving on to her final destination: Hollywood.

Tommy Lee

The Mötley Crüe drummer, also known for his torturous relationship with actress Pamela Anderson, has always been a reference to Californian culture, but the reality is that he was born in Athens, Greece, in 1962. His father was an American soldier stationed there when he met his mother. They moved to the United States in 1963.

Nicole Kidman

And here we have another Australian, Nicole Kidman. Winner of awards such as an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a Primetime Emmy, she began as an actress in the oceanic country, but, she wasn't born there. Nicole was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, where her parents were temporarily living on student visas.

Tom Hardy

He was born Edward Thomas Hardy in Hammersmith, London, growing up in the suburb of East Sheen. His father was a comedy writer,  which is where Tom got a taste of acting. He trained at the London Drama Centre and made his great leap into Hollywood cinema in 2001 with 'Black Hawk Down.'

Charlize Theron

The actress and model, who won the Oscar in 2003 for her great role in 'Monster,' was born far from Hollywood, actually, on another continent. With a German mother and a French/Dutch father, Charlize was born in the city of Benoni, in Southern Africa.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

He dominated the American bodybuilding scene in the 80s, became a Hollywood superstar in the 90s, married into the American Kennedy family (his ex-wife Maria Shriver was the niece to President John F. Kennedy), and was Governor of California from 2003-2011. However, he wasn't born in the US. (Did his accent give it away by chance?) Schwarzenegger was born in the small municipality of Thal, Austria.

He grew up in the suburb of Strathmore Park and has been living between his country and Australia for most of his life.

Mia Wasikowska

Known for her leading roles in 'Alice in Wonderland,' 'Alice Through the Looking Glass', and in HBO's 'In Treatment,' this actress is in the Australian circle, having been born in Canberra to an Australian father and a Polish mother.

Daniel Brühl

He became known in 2003 for  'Good Bye, Lenin!' and later for 'Inglourious Basterds' and 'Rush.' Brühl was born in Barcelona, Spain as the son of a German director and a Spanish teacher.

Melania Trump

A former model and wife of the former US President Donald Trump, Melania was born Melanija Knavs, in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, in 1970. At the time, it was a part of Yugoslavia. She later changed her name to Melania Knauss, later taking her husband's last name and becoming the widely known, Melania Trump.

Pierce Brosnan

Known for his most famous role as James Bond, he was an incredible 007, and the perfect English gentleman. Make no mistake, though, because Pierce Brosnan was born in Drogheda, Ireland, in 1953. Oh, James.

Dua Lipa

The supersinger pop star was born in London in 1995, but her family origins began far from there. Her parents, Anesa and Dukagjin Lipa were Kosovar Albanian immigrants. In 2022, Dua Lipa received honorary Albanian citizenship from the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj. Lipa co-founded the Sunny Hill Foundation with her father to organize annual concerts in her native Kosovo and help spread awareness for Albanians through music.
