Consternation on social media: Ivanka Trump looks like a Wife from 'The Handmaid's Tale'
Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States of America. While most of the attention has been on what Trump said in his Inauguration Day speech, there is also much to talk about when it comes to Ivanka Trump's fashion choices for the ceremony.
All eyes were on the Trump family, and people quickly noticed just how much Ivanka Trump's emerald green outfit resembled the dresses worn by the wives, such as Serena Joy, in the dystopian series 'The Handmaid's Tale.'

Accompanied by her children on her way to the US Capitol building on the morning of January 20, Ivanka was photographed wearing an emerald green skirtsuit with a cinched waist, combined with an asymmetrical hemmed coat, also in emerald green, tightly belted around her waist. Ivanka also wore a matching ascot cap and a black Lady Dior bag.
In the TV series 'The Handmaid's Tale,' based on the book by the same name by Margret Atwood, Serena Joy is a former televangelist who got involved in politics and helped to develop a theocratic policy that eventually forced her into becoming a submissive housewife.

Ivanka Trump's resemblance to Serena Joy, the wife of Commander Fred Waterford (the couple that uses and abuses 'Offred,' June Osborne, to try to conceive a baby) is incredibly striking, and one can't help but wonder if it is intentional. Is Ivanka Trump actually a Serena Joy fan girl?

Over the years, fans of 'The Handmaid's Tale' have noticed similarities in how Ivanka Trump dresses on other occasions and have made the comparison to Serena Joy before.

It seems, however, that the similarities between Ivanka and Serena Joy are actually much more profound than just their fashion choices. The changes in Ivanka's life, going from the White House to the kitchen table, are starting to look a little too much for comfort like the story of the TV series.
Now, we doubt that Ivanka Trump has become a submissive housewife (at least, not yet...). Still, when asked by the press about being involved with politics upon her father, Donald Trump's return to the White House, some of her answers have been eerily 'Handmaid's Tale-esque.'
On January 14, Ivanka Trump spoke to the Skinny Confidential's 'Him & Her Show' podcast about how she now "hates politics" and had no plans to return to the White House.
As reported by The New York Post, Ivanka said on the podcast that even though she will continue to reside in Florida with her family, where she moved after Trump's 2020 loss, she still plans to support her father.
Ivanka said, "I think I’m most looking forward to just being able to show up for him as a daughter and be there for him to take his mind off things, to watch a movie with him, or watch a sports game."
Being a good daughter and staying out of politics sounds like something the daughter of a high commander or President would say in Gilead. But it gets worse...
Ivanka then goes on to say that now she basically just wants to be a mom. This is a fine and respectable choice, but given the current political atmosphere and the way she dresses, it makes for an eerie parallel with the women from 'The Handmaid's Tale'. Is she repressed, just like them?
Ivanka said, "The main reason I am not going back to serve now is I know the cost, and it's a price that I'm not willing to make my kids bear. My primary goals were just to like, be the best freaking mom."
When the Trump daughter was younger, she talked ambitiously about her business and making changes in the world. Therefore, we hope that staying home and being an awesome mom is what Ivanka truly wants; not a choice pushed on her by the men in her life.
Still, Ivanka's clothing and life choices, combined with her father's policy, make one wonder... Is America slowly turning into Gilead?
