When police showed up at Jennifer Aniston's home... as a prank
Jennifer Aniston was at home, peacefully, when several police officers showed up at the door and asked if everything was all right. The actress was totally unaware.
Although all was well at Casa Aniston, the authorities had received a call claiming that someone had health problems in the house and required immediate attention.
This is what has become known as ‘Swatting’. A recurring prank in which someone calls the police, claiming to be concerned about a friend's health, and gives the address of a celebrity. TMZ reported on the trend.
Jennifer Aniston is not the first celebrity to suffer from the fad known as ‘Swatting’ .
According to TMZ, other celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna (pictured) and Nicki Minaj have also had unexpected visits from the police in recent months.
The dark problem is that in Jennifer Aniston's case, the person who called the police claimed that the person in the house was at risk of self-harming, according to the media.
Obviously, the caller chose to remain anonymous, claiming that they did not want to get into trouble with the person in the house, whose identity was also withheld, but the address indicated a high-class area.
Police, according to TMZ, even contacted Jennifer Aniston by phone to ensure her well-being before and after arriving at her home.
And because it involves Jennifer Aniston, the case is directly related to what happened to Matthew Perry, the actress's long-time friend, who was found dead in his home almost a year ago.
What may seem like a simple joke to many people can have many more implications and complications depending on the individual's circumstances.
