Where is Bonnie Wright, the unforgettable Ginny Weasley of 'Harry Potter'?

More than 20 years ago, the very first film in the 'Harry Potter' saga was released in cinemas. There, the world discovered Bonnie Wright, alias Ginny, the little sister of Ron Weasley. By now, the beautiful English actress is over 30. But what has become of her?

Bonnie Wright was born on February 17, 1991, in London. Her parents were Gary Wright and Sheila Teague, owners of the Wright & Teague jewelry store. Unlike her character in 'Harry Potter,' Bonnie has only one brother, Lewis.

Her brother had a key role in her life as an actress, because it was he who pushed her to audition for 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' in 1999. Bonnie Wright, then only eight years old, got the part of Ginny Weasley ahead of more than 17,000 candidates.

For nearly a decade, Bonnie Wright lived to the rhythm of filming the 'Harry Potter' films - seven in total. She played the youngest of the Weasley siblings, a recurring character in the saga of resounding triumph.

Her role is initially minimal, as she only appears in a single scene in 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.' She is seen standing on platform 9 3/4 of Kings Cross station. However, her character takes on more importance from the second film onwards, when Ginny becomes a student of the Hogwarts Academy.

In the second part of the saga, Ginny Weasley joins Dumbledore's Army and begins to assert herself more and more. From a shy young girl, she becomes a witch full of confidence, courage, and determination. A temperament that will make Harry Potter himself succumb!

Thanks to Ginny Weasley, the role of her young life, Bonnie Wright obtained a nomination for the (British) Empire Award for Best Female Newcomer. It was 2012, and 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2' had just been released.

At the end of the 'Harry Potter' saga, Bonnie Wright continued to make films, but they were more in the genre of drama. Sadly, they were not very well received. Examples are 'Before I Sleep' (2013) and 'The Sea' (2013). She also joined the cast of the science fiction film 'After the Dark.'

In 2013, Bonnie Wright also tried her hand at theater, playing the main role 'The Moment of Truth.' Her performance was hailed by British critics.

However, Bonnie Wright began to flourish most of all when she directed her first film at age 21. The short film is called 'Separate We Come, Separate We Go' and it premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Besides the other four short films she made between 2014 and 2018, with her own production company 'Bon Bon Lumière,' Bonnie Wright also directed several music videos. She collaborated with singer Sophie Lowe (in the photo) and musician Peter Yorn.

In 2019, the Briton announced that she was working on her first feature film, an action film on ecological issues entitled 'Unearthed,' Unfortunately, the shooting of the film never started because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Throughout her career, Bonnie Wright also tried other avenues. In 2011, for example, she discovered the world of modeling, as she walked the catwalk for Katie Eary's new collection at London Fashion Week.

Bonnie Wright is also distinguished by her deep commitment to good causes. In 2016, the actress became an ambassador for Lumos, an association founded by JK Rowling, which helps children living in poverty.

Bonnie Wright attaches great importance to the preservation of the environment and is an ecological activist. She notably joined the Arctic Sunrise in 2017 to highlight the threat that plastics pose to our oceans.

The Londoner has also created a range of eco-friendly swimwear for women with the Fair Harbor Clothing brand.

At the end of 2020, the British director founded 'Go Gently,' a community in which members share their practices and tips for adopting an eco-responsible lifestyle. In addition to an online platform, Bonnie Wright has created a YouTube channel on which she regularly posts new videos.

In the continuity of her project, Wright published her first book in April 2022. It is titled 'Go Gently: Actionable Steps to Nurture Yourself and the Planet.'

After appearing in three films in 2013, Bonnie Wright could be seen in the comedy 'Those Who Wander' (2015). She then got the lead role in the British comedy 'Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg?' (2015). While her career seemed promising, the last film she shot, 'A Christmas Carol,' already dates back to 2018 and it doesn't seem like any new film projects are on the agenda.

As far as her personal life is concerned, Bonnie Wright was engaged to actor Jamie Campbell Bowers (photo) in 2010- The actor plays Gellert Grindelwald in 'Harry Potter' and 'Fantastic Beasts,' as well as Henry Creel / Vecna in 'Stranger Things.' The relationship didn't last, though. The couple separated in 2012.

Since 2020, the actress has shared her life with Andrew Lococo, an American entrepreneur. They were married on March 19, 2022, in an ecological center in California, the American state where she has resided for the past years.

On April 28, 2023, Bonnie Wright announced her pregnancy on her Instagram account. "Andrew and I can’t wait to meet our baby later this year and become parents," she wrote. So, yes, little Ginny has grown up, and Bonnie Wright is preparing to take on a whole new role. This time it will be that of mom, and it will undoubtedly suit her perfectly!
