Which jobs are most likely to get you a date?
Are you single and looking for true love? You are probably already registered on a dating site! Tinder, Bumble, Fruitz, Happn... Today there are dozens of applications allowing you to easily meet people who might be a match for you.
When creating a profile, the application generally asks its users to enter their first name, their age, their interests, but also their level of education and their profession. Although this last aspect may seem purely random at first glance, it could actually influence your chances of finding love...
Your job could work in your favor or, conversely, against you, on dating applications. In 2016, Tinder established a ranking of the most "swiped to the right" (read, the most popular) jobs in the United States. Can you guess which professions came out on top?

According to this study conducted by Tinder, hetero women registered on the application were particularly attracted to airline pilots. The uniformed plane captain is number one in the ranking, while the second spot is for businessmen and the third for firefighters.
On the men's side, many Americans would fall under the spell of women physiotherapists. They would also appreciate interior designers and entrepreneurs, who came respectively in the second and third positions of the ranking developed by Tinder in 2016.
A more recent investigation into the issue, published in September 2023 in Huffpost, gives different results, however. It was carried out by American journalist Monica Torres.
"Whether or not it's fair, we often make instant judgments on whether to match with other people on dating apps, based on what they do for a living," the journalist explains.
To find out which jobs are most popular on dating platforms in the United States, the Huffpost journalist collected data from two different applications: OkCupid and The League. The results are quite surprising!
On the OkCupid app, the profession of nurse is the most successful, as Michael Kaye, director of marketing for the app, explains to HuffPost. "People who share that they are a nurse have a 37% higher chance of having a conversation, and are 62% more likely to exchange numbers with another dater." He specifies that the data was not separated by gender - so male nurses are also included.
Besides healthcare, the other attractive industries for OkCupid users are technology, engineering, education, and marketing.
"Singles working in tech and health care are really popular on OkCupid," Michael Kaye told Huffpost. "I actually think it makes sense. When we think of people working in tech, we assume they are great communicators, they’re problem solvers. For health care workers, we think of them as, you know, caring or nurturing."
The League, the second dating app in the Huffpost survey, is aimed at career-oriented people. As a matter of fact, it synchronizes its users' accounts with their LinkedIn profiles! The results of job popularity in The League were segmented by gender. Let's see which careers get the most dates!
According to the data from The League, the positions generating the most interest among its American users are management, social media, and finance. So if you're a social media manager, associate consultant, or banking investment advisor, you are a step ahead of the other women on the dating app.
American women registered at The League seem to have a preference for men who work in the banking and finance sector. According to data provided to Huffpost, the positions that appeal most to women are those of associate, financial analyst, MBA candidate, and trader.
Conversely, what are the jobs that could slow down your success on dating apps? While there are no concrete studies on the subject, Huffpost cites a post published in 2022 on X, asking "Which professions you couldn't date?". The tweet received thousands of replies.
Among the professions that often came up in the X responses, we find politicians, law enforcement officials, professional athletes, and even influencers. What do these jobs have in common? Each of them divides public opinion in its own way!
