It isn't always easy to find a film suitable for everyone!

It's the holiday season and the perfect time of year to cuddle up on the sofa with the family under a blanket and enjoy some Christmas films! However, not all Christmas films are made equal and finding something everyone can enjoy can be a challenge, to say the least!

Films approved by a teacher and child psychologist

Don't worry, though; we are here to give you a hand! I am an elementary teacher, and my husband is a child psychologist. We are a bit picky when it comes to what we will let our kids watch. So here is our curated, teacher, parent and child psychologist-approved list of awesome Christmas movies to watch with your kids!

Home Alone

This film might seem a tad violent but it is such a classic that it simply must be on the list! The whole family will laugh and delight at Kevin's antics!

The Snowy Day

This movie is more for the younger crowd but it is a crowd pleaser none the less. Based on the acclaimed picture book of the same title, it is full of great values just like the story, a good reminder to everyone that holiday season is a time of joy and acceptance, full of kindness and sharing.

A Boy Called Christmas

This is a more modern film that has a wonderful story and is filled with Christmas magic and good values. There are a few moments of intense suspense which could make younger kids a bit anxious, but overall a very solid family film!

Christmas with the Kranks

This film is more suited to older kids, around nine and up. Everyone will have a laugh as they watch the Krank family decide to try to forgo Christmas, an almost impossible task in their holiday loving neighborhood. The humor is absurd and will have you holding your gut and there are some good messages for the kids about the true meaning of the holiday season.

Elf

You've most likely seen this film and now it is time to share it with your offspring! The kids won't pick up on all of Will Farrell's jokes, but you will, and they will love how wacky he is as a giant human elf!

A Charlie Brown Christmas

You may need a pep-talk with your kids first to get them to look past the old-school animation, but 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' should definitely be on the must watch list for your family this Christmas. Not only is it heart-warming but it will also teach your kids about the true meaning of Christmas.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey

This is a gentle, modern fantasy film that will keep both you and the kids entertained! The costumes and the musical numbers are wonderful, and the story is rather sweet.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

This 1992 film is a retelling of the classic Dickens tale of Ebenezer Scrooge...but featuring everyone's favorite puppets, the Muppets! An excellent film for all ages, the kids will delight in the silliness of the Muppets, and parents will enjoy the nostalgia.

The Grinch (animated)

Our favorite 'Grinch' movie is this animated version from 2018, which was produced by the same animation studio that gave us 'Despicable Me.' We all know this classic story of the grouchy green creature that is trying to ruin Christmas in Whoville, and it is worth watching every year!

Spirited

'Spirited' offers the grown-ups some respite from all the holiday kiddie films, but don't worry it is still very family friendly. Packed full of fun and humor, plus the combination of Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds is a win!

The Polar Express

This film starring an animated version of Tom Hanks is based on the book by the same name. A good film to rekindle the magic of Christmas, as it shows the journey of a boy who begun to doubt in the existence of Santa Claus, but a magical train ride changes everything.

Klaus

This animated film offers a unique Santa Claus origins story based on a terrible postman and a reclusive old man coming together. Get cosy on the sofa and snuggle up for a film that the whole family will enjoy.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

This movie might be from 1964 but it is still a winner! Once the kids get over the old school quality of the film they will fall in love with this whimsical tale of everyone's favorite reindeer!

Rise of the Guardians

While this might not be classified as 100% Christmas film, your kids will enjoy seeing all of their favorite holiday and mythological characters in action: from Jack Frost, to Santa, to the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny.

Angela's Christmas

This Irish film tells a sad yet heartwarming tale of a little girl named Angela, based on the work of Irish author  Frank McCourt. Children will learn the importance of being generous even if they face difficult circumstances and have little to give.
