SHINee’s Minho released a full solo LP

SHINee's Minho surprised K-pop fans when he announced the release of his solo music LP in November 2024. Allkpop reported that many K-pop fans were looking out for this album because it would be his first solo LP (Long Play) work since he entered the K-pop industry in 2008.

Who is Minho?

Minho is a member of the K-pop boy band SHINee which is under SM Entertainment and serves as the group’s rapper and singer.

Early life

Born Choi Min-ho, Minho is a native of Incheon, South Korea, and was born on December 9, 1991. He is currently 32 years old.

Entering K-entertainment

According to Koreaboo, Minho’s entry into the K-entertainment industry started in 2006 when he was discovered and scouted by an agent from SM Entertainment.

Was scouted twice

The same report from Koreaboo states that this happened twice for Minho, as he rejected an offer from an agent once while scouted at a ski resort.

Accepted offer later

Koreaboo reports that Minho only obliged later when he was approached by a “persistent agent” while still schooling.

First started as a model

Since entering the management of SM Entertainment after being scouted, Minho’s first steps in the K-entertainment industry started in modelling. Nate reports that he modelled for the fashion designer Ha Seng-beg’s fashion collection back in 2008 and walked the runway.

Part of SHINee

Hankyung News reports that just a month after walking on the runway, Minho was announced to be part of SM Entertainment’s then latest boy group, SHINee.

10Asia reports that he first diversified by going into acting in 2010 in the KBS2 show, ‘Pianist’, and took on several many other acting works after.

Solo music

Minho is an all-rounder because, in addition to acting, he has demonstrated his ability to hold his own in the music industry by debuting his solo song in 2019.

‘I’m Home’

According to Yonhap News, Minho released the song 'I'm Home' shortly before enlisting in South Korea's military service, which is mandatory for all South Korean men.

Then his first EP

Only years later, in December 2022, Minho released a more fleshed-out solo album titled 'Chase'.

Did not want to release EP

According to Clash, Minho initially did not intend to release a solo EP but was moved to do so after reading fan mail addressed to him following the completion of his military service.

Now, finally, an LP

Two years later, Minho returned to the music scene with an even longer musical release, the LP ‘Call Back’. It came out on November 4, 2024. In Korea's Circle Chart for Best Albums, it reached the 6th place.

LP and concert

Along with his long-awaited LP, the star gave his first solo concert in Seoul that same month. We have to wait and see if this will be a strong start to a successful international career.
