He could have become a basketball player, as he won a university scholarship to play at New York University, but Louis Gossett Jr. ended up becoming a highly prolific actor on stage and screen. He won an Emmy Award for his role in 'Roots' in 1977 and an Oscar in 1983 for his role in 'An Officer and a Gentleman'. It was the first time ever for a Black man to be awarded the Oscar. Louis Gossett Jr. died at the age of 87.

Joe Lieberman - March 27

Democratic Senator for Connecticut between 1989 and 2013, also campaigning for the role of Vice President alongside Al Gore in 2000, Joe Lieberman declared himself an Independent politician in 2007. He passed away at the age of 82 from the complications of a fall.

Fritz Wepper - March 25

Lovers of the German 'Krimi' genre undoubtedly know Detective Harry Klein (right in the photo) who assisted Inspector Derrick in solving numerous murders on national TV. Klein's interpreter, Fritz Wepper, passed away from the consequences of cancer and blood poisoning.

Alesia Graf - March 25

The German boxer Alesia Graf died at the age of 43, as confirmed by the German outlet 'Die Welt'. The causes of her death have not been revealed. Graf became the WBF super bantamweight world champion in 2008.

Ron Harper - March 21

Veteran actor Ron Harper, remembered among others for his role in the 1970s television series 'Planet of the Apes', passed away at the age of 91. It was a death of natural causes.

Billy Kellock - March 20

Scottish soccer player Billy Kellock signed with clubs such as Aston Villa, Cardiff City, Norwich City, and Halifax Town. He passed away at the age of 70.

M. Emmet Walsh - March 19

This familiar face is known for supporting roles in more than a hundred productions, among which were the movies 'Blade Runner' (1982) and 'Blood Simple' (1984). Actor M. Emmet Walsh passed away at the age of 88 from cardiac arrest.

Ersen Martin - 19 maart

At a young age, this German-Turkish footballer died from the effects of a previously occurred aortic dissection. He was only 44 years old. Martin played for the German Nuremberg, Turkish Beşiktaş, and Spanish Huelva teams. He even was briefly selected for the Turkish national team.

Joe Barone - March 19

A heart attack was the cause of the death of Joe Barone, general director of the Italian football club Fiorentina. He was 57 years old.

Konstantin Koltsov - March 18

Former Belarusian ice hockey player Konstantin Koltsov accompanied his ex-girlfriend, the Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka, to the Miami Open. He allegedly took his life by jumping from a balcony, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department. The athlete was 42 years old.

Chris Simon - March 18

Former NHL player Chris Simon, who was 52 years old, passed away under yet unknown circumstances. Some media report that he allegedly took his own life.

Joana Neves - March 18

Brazilian Paralympic swimmer Joana Neves, winner of five medals in the Paralympic Games and fifteen in the World Cup, died of cardiorespiratory arrest at the age of 37.

Thomas P. Stafford – March 18

American astronaut Thomas P. Stafford, commander of Apollo 10 who never set foot on the Moon, died at the age of 93 in a Florida hospital after a long illness. He participated in four space missions, two of them on Apollo spaceships.

Steve Harley - March 17

British singer and songwriter Steve Harley, a member of the 1970s rock group Cockney Rebel, died at the age of 73 from cancer.

Cola Boyy - March 17

Cola Boyy, songwriter of 'Don't Forget Your Neighborhood', 'Penny Girl', 'Stage 70', among others, was found lifeless in his room on March 17. The causes of his death are being investigated. He was 34 years old.

Robyn Bernard – March 12

The American actress Robyn Bernard, remembered for her work in the series 'General Hospital', was found dead on March 12. According to media outlets such as TMZ, her body was found in a field in San Jacinto, California. She was 64 years old.

Emilio Correa - March 11

The Cuban boxer Emilio Correa, Olympic champion (Munich 1972), world champion (Havana 1974),  and Pan American champion (Cali 1971), died at the age of 70 from causes that have not been revealed.

Eric Carmen - March 9/10

The exact circumstances and date of singer-songwriter Eric Carmen's death have not been revealed, but it is known that the legendary 70s/80s star from songs like 'All By Myself' and 'Hungry Eyes' passed away in his sleep at age 74.

T.M. Stevens - March 10

You may remember his bass riff at the beginning of Joe Cocker's 'Unchain My Heart.' Bassist T.M. Stevens was revolutionary in developing a rock-metal sound. He would tour with many greats across the spectrum of blues and rock n' roll, including James Brown with whom he sang 'Living in America' and 'Gravity'. Stevens suffered from dementia in his later years and passed away at the age of 72.

Percy Adlon - March 10

German filmmaker and director Percy Adlon died at the age of 88. He is known, among others, for the film 'Bagdad Cafe' in 1988.

Besar Nimani - March 9

Besar Nimani, former European champion in the light middleweight category, lost his life at the age of 38. The boxer of Kosovar origin, now a German citizen, was fatally shot outside a cafeteria in the German city of Bielefeld, according to local media.

Herbert Kroemer - March 8

This acclaimed German-American physicist won the Nobel Prize together with Zhores Ivanovich Alferov in 2000. Their achievement was the development of "semiconductor heterostructures used in high-speed- and opto-electronics that laid the foundation for the modern era of microchips, computers, and information technology," the University of California in Santa Barbara says. Kroemer died at the age of 95.

Steve Lawrence - March 7

The American singer and actor, who we will remember for the duo he formed with his wife, Eydie Gormé, died at the age of 95 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Nick Sheridan – March 6

Scottish BBC presenter Nick Sheridan died at age 32 from the collapse of an aneurysm causing a stroke.

Akira Toriyama - March 1

A Spanish aristocrat, the youngest son of Princess Pilar de Borbón, died at the age of 49 after suffering from respiratory problems for months.

Iris Apfel - March 1

American fashion influencer Iris Apfel passed away at the age of 92. Although fame came to her when she was in her eighties, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (MET) even dedicated a tribute to her with the exhibition 'Iris Apfel: Rara Avis'.
