Kate Beckinsale's health in the spotlight

The Princess of Wales is not the only Kate whose health has been a public concern lately. Kate Beckinsale made headlines in March when she spent a few days in the hospital for unknown reasons. In April, she was in the news once again with some new clues about her condition.

'Tummy Troubles Survivor'

Although she did not make an official statement about her health, Beckinsale seemed to be feeling better, according to her social media posts. She left a clue in a recent Instagram picture, where she poses with her dog and wears a T-shirt that says 'Tummy Troubles Survivor'. In addition, she wears a bow on her head that seems to be the same one she wore in the hospital a few days earlier.

Unanswered questions

Yet, the mystery surrounding her health continues. After several media reported on her Instagram comments about her 'tummy,' Kate Beckinsale deleted the posts from her account. The question of whether she's seriously ill and when we can expect her back on her feet, remains unanswered.

Mother's Day

The photos, although shared at a later date, were taken on Sunday, 10 March, Mother's Day in the UK, and are shared in a carousel that starts with photos of the actress's mother, Judy Loe, opening her presents.

She didn't forget the congratulations

"Happy everything, mother. Your fight for joy, despite also receiving the tears, is the experience of watching a warrior up close. I love you," Kate Beckinsale tells her mother in the text accompanying the photos.

Gifts for Judy

The text makes more sense when you go through the carousel and get to the ones that show the actress sat up in bed, with an IV in her arm and a slightly pained expression.

No indication of what's wrong

Unfortunately for her fans, Kate Beckinsale has not indicated the reason for her admission, nor the state of her health. However, she did want to stick to telling the narrative of her own story herself.

She often talks about her health problems

Back in 2019, the actress shared with her followers that she had suffered a ruptured ovarian cyst and had undergone surgery.

And there is a reason

Despite the complicated nature of the issue, some criticised her for taking a selfie in such conditions, to which the 'Underworld' star replied that she did it because someone had caught her in a photo. "In fact I would not have posted it if we had not noticed someone in a car taking a photo of me leaving the hospital in a wheelchair".

Dental surgery and souvenir photo

In November 2023, the actress shared her last visit to a hospital, in this case to the dentist, after an extensive dental surgery.

Idiopathic Mast Cell Activation Syndrome

However, speculation from her followers points more to Idiopathic Mastocyte Activation Syndrome (MAS), which the actress has said she suffers from on several occasions on her social media, describing it as "a massive daily struggle", as PEOPLE recalls.

Symptoms of MAS

The condition causes those affected to suffer repeated episodes of anaphylaxis, i.e. allergic symptoms such as swelling, hives, breathing problems, severe diarrhea, or low blood pressure, as reported by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI).

A very complicated 2024

Add to all this - the death of her stepfather, Roy Battersby, in January 2024. It was an irreparable loss on top of the aforementioned health problems.

A quick comment at the Kings Trust Global Gala

At the King's Trust Global Gala, where she made her first public appearance since the health scare, Beckinsale talked briefly to PEOPLE magazine about her situation. "It's been a rough year," she said.

But nothing on her health

What was her explanation? "My parents have both been unwell and my cat ... it's been a bunch of things. So that's why it's nice to come and see friends and have a little perspective. Everyone's had a bit of a rough year, I think." And that's all she wanted to reveal to the press for now. We hope that, whatever's bugging Kate Beckinsale, she will be as new soon.
